Txiki Begiristain to leave role at end of season

Yes. Because of Pep, Khaldoon and the fact we seem to generate enough cash to at least compete with Real Madrid, Chelsea and Bayern for signings.
I can think of a whole list of reasons of why the squad is what it is this season ,some reasons will be right some wrong. Whatever the reasons though losing Rodri for a whole season is unfortunate, all the attacking players except Haaland forgetting how to score is a bit odd.
If we don’t win it this year that’s okay and 3 or 4 changes in the summer when maybe KDB,Walker, Gundogan move on we’ll be ready to go again.
It isn’t about competing with other teams for signings we never really have, just bringing in the right ones when we can, sure we will.
I won’t be losing any sleep over an average season if that’s how it turns out. Certainly won’t be looking to dish out blame on those that have delivered the last 10 years.

Pile on akanji? Not really. Hes just not the strongest and can be exposed. As he has been at CB . Prefer him on the right

Ok ‘zero end product’ for doku is taking it a bit literal. Hows ‘very little end product’?

The writing was on the wall last season for me. Past experience got us over the line in my opinion. Kovacic may have played 30 games but hes a 6/10 player.
My point is , compared to past squads .. he doesnt get a sniff
Agree he’s not as good a player in that position as any of Rodri, Barry, De Jong, Fernandinho, YaYa or past-life Gundogan, he’s probably on par with Garcia and Fernando

It’s the poor decisions and lack of activity that has caused it, the warning signs were so clear last season. Losing wingers with 60/70 GA and replacing them with ones who have only managed to score once between them, it’s December next week. I genuinely worry what happens if Haaland gets injured, I’d be amazed if we get top 4 if it was a lengthy one. The midfield is poor, I get bad form at the minute is making it look worse but even so it’s clearly not good enough. We didn’t win a single game Rodri missed last season, we didn’t act. We know De Bruyne is getting more injury prone and we didn’t act and thought we will just rely on them again. Gundogan was signed a week from the window closing so if he was unavailable we would have just ended up with Savinho, it’s not entitled to ask why? Were the second most profitable club in player trading in the world, and the most successful English side in the last 10 years how are we being outspent by Ipswich.

Zero, "irrefutable evidence" and the club is dropping 300M plus on a new stand which makes any reluctance to go into the transfer market null and void.

This time next year we will have a 62,000 seats to sell and we need a top team with top players to do that.
I’ve often thought this, they need the squad to bring the tourists in to spend the money

The club have got squad building so badly wrong that I reckon last summer they didn’t want to take anymore risks, coupled with the uncertainty over the managers future.

The then worst thing they did was sign Nunes summer 2023. Once they got burnt by Paqueta’s betting scandal, they should’ve waited. We’d have probably seen the Gvardiol level midfield signing walk through the door this summer.

And why do you think the same people that built the team that have been the most succsfull in our history one of the best ever have made those decisions? Have they suddenly forgotten what they did , or maybe they’ve decided they can’t be arsed.
Or just maybe they still know exactly what they are doing there are other very good reasons why we left things as they were last summer and decided next summer was better long term over the next 5 years to rebuild. Because just off the top of my head I can think of 4 very good reasons to do it next summer and why it wasn’t done last summer.
Personally think they know exactly what they are doing.

The signings of Philips, Nunes and Doku have all been poor though

That is pathetic , this is sport played by human and not a computer game

Bollocks, fucking Real and Bayern seem to manage it most years and their players are human. Maintain the momentum with a top manager and a refreshed squad each season there’s no reason at all why we can’t do 7 or 8 in a row.

I don’t know, I’m asking the question. The main guy is leaving so maybe he took his eye of the ball with him leaving which is natural, but we’re now relying on a totally unknown guy at this level to do the rebuild so we will see. We’re seeing links to players now in January so it shows the club are willing to buy so why not do that in the summer, it would probably of been cheaper than to buy in Jan. I hope the clubs inactivity was down to it not being the right time, but willingness to spend now kind of puts that into doubt a little bit. It will be an exciting summer that’s for sure.

We are seeing links to CM players in January only because Rodri is out for the season, otherwise we’d have waited until next summer. So there’s the reason for that. Echeverri will arrive. That’s the squad full, unless we decide not to register Rodri.
My view of why we didn’t do much last summer Firstly it would be nothing to do with Txiki.
Main reason I think we were looking ahead to next summer when Walker, KDB maybe Bernardo leave and replacing them. Secondly during last summer we didn’t know Peps plans, third,I think we are looking at replacing the 3 mentioned with players that weren’t moving last summer. Final reason I think we knew about the APT case and weren't sure where that left us financially, plus as much as we like to think otherwise I’m sure some agents were raising questions about the 115. Think there were reasons we brought in a CFG player and Gundogan on a free.
There may be other reasons none of us are aware of. What I am sure about is Khaldoon, Soriano Txiki, Pep know exactly what they are doing and will have had good reasons for every decision they have taken for the squad and will have a plan for the years and seasons ahead not just this season.
