Txiki Begiristain

I'm constantly baffled by how often this thread pops up. Do other clubs forums bump the Director of Footballs thread every time anything that isn't 100% positive happens or is this a uniquely bluemoon thing?

We've waited 3 or so years to bring in the best manager in the world.

Now we've got him I'm baffled as to why we've hamstrung him with bizarre pre-season plans and have been so slow in backing him in the transfer market.

A week to go and we'll still be mainly relying on players we got under Hughes and Mancini.

so true

gudongan is the only sure fire improvement at the moment

If we get stones then that will be two improvements to our starting 11/match day squad......

Sane - hopefully will be but nothing is for certain with young players like him.

other than that its all been about the future and not the immediate problems

Think the business we've done is good.

Stones, Gundogan and Noltio will all be first team regulars and Sane will get plenty of time as well.

We've spent big on quality youth with Gabriel, Moreno and Zinchenko.

The issue I have is with how badly unbalanced the squad is that despite all of those signings we still look in relatively bad shape. I think most people would be happy to see the back of Kolarov, Mangala, Fernando, Yaya, Bony, Nasri and maybe Navas and there are question marks over Hart and Willy.

And we haven't managed to sell a significant player all summer which is pretty poor.

Bought some great attacking talent this summer but defensively? Oh dear oh dear oh me.
You build from the back - not the front.
Still an exiting start to the season could be coming up.

Of course it does. Woodward has been a huge talking point for Rags for a few years and Villa fans themselves have approached Andy Townsend because they're sick to death of having shit DoFs

I'm not saying Begiristain is shit by the way.

It's been terrible. Nolito is not a top player, many are making him out to be simply because he's signed for us but he's not. Gundogan is world class but he misses quite a lot of games. Stones is not even a good defender yet, he has the potential but at the moment he's average. It's baffling the business we've done considering we just signed the best manager in the world. weve got loads of average footballers in our squad it'll take Pep at least a season to get it right.

He might not be a 100 mil headline grabber , but he is a good player. He knows peps system and links well with strikers from that left side. He will be more than useful for us...
