Txiki Begiristain

Why do we double players wages when they come to us?.. for example, was competing for trophies and Champions league football not enough to get Bony to move from Swansea? Add like a 10k per week or so rise yeah but to double it from 50k to 100k+ is stupid.

Sané & Gabriel Jesus for example, can sign for anyone they want. So we have to at least be in the area of what a top club would offer them.

So they come in at 19 & earn 50% more than blokes 5 10 years older ?

Top clubs pay top money.

Exactly. It would appear this seasons purchases were identified by Pep. My question is who was responsible for before? Was it Pellegrini? Or was Txiki doing the identifying and purchasing himself? No doubt, before Pep we were very dodgy in the transfer market quality wise.
thought we did well in 2015 summer to be fair, bought Sterling, KDB and Otamendi. All good purchases, Delph was signed as hes English.

but before that 2015 summer, I agree we were dodgy in the market from 2012 to 2014.

We have won two titles with our dodgy signings. All the managers have signed good & bad players. Hughes made some fantasic signings as did Mancini.

Pellegrini brought in Fernandinho, Navas, Negredo & Demichelis who all turned out to be fantastic signings now Pep/Pellegrini have signed Sterling & DeBruyne & then we have to see how this years bunch perform.

People spend too much time whinging about the ones who didn't work. We are growing as a club so the players we may attract will be higher level.

You are once again grossly overstating what has gone on. Other than Mangala and Bony can you point me in the direction of any other transfers under Txiki's watch which have not been able to sell?

I'll help. There aren't any. Dzeko. Gone as soon as he wanted him gone. Jovetic. Same. Balotelli. Same. Negredo. Same. Javi Garcia. Same. Rodwell. Same. Begiristain's record is stained by the Mangala and Bony transfers but it still remains a fantastic record both in terms of values paid for players and values we got for players we didn't want.

Sadly all those signings have one thing in common they were sold for less than purchased, in some instances considerably, and in the case of Dzeko, Tevez for fees you would have been lucky to pick up a half decent championship prospect for let alone two top class international strikers.

Similarly Barry was sold for 2m and Lescott left on a free in the summer having failed to secure a transfer in the January window.

Would you say the fees received for Tevez, Barry, Dzeko were comparable with there talents and the market at the time?

It's not what we paid its their book value that counts. If we bought a player for £25m over a 5 year contract and sell him in the 5th year he's worth £5m. Sell him for £10m and we've made £5m.

What counts is we make as much money on transfer fees received as possible. For instance Gareth Barry was a great servant but that would not stop City from accruing as much as possible at point of sale.

United bought ronaldo for 12 million, sold three years laters so his book value was probably 4 million yet they mysteriously charged 90 million for him. I wonder why?

We were relatively poor in those windows but we shouldn't underestimate the effects of having to navigate FFP at that time. UEFA were determined to fuck us over, it clearly had an impact on what we were doing.

Sorry that is just an accounting convenience. If you sell a player for less than he costs you make no money or profit on the transaction, the money that you 'make' is just due to the fact that you have had higher expenses earlier in the contract.
We make money from players by having them play well for us and taking in money from gates TV marketing etc.

Not difficult, Ronaldo was sold before he reached his peak, they were desperate to hang on to him Barry was sold by us after his best years when we no longer wanted him, same with Dzeko, Tevez, Lescott. None were sold against our wishes we had won titles with them the value of that can't be counted in transfer fees.
Why do you care, as long as the club are comfortable and it doesn't impact on new buys, why on earth should we be bothered.

That argument could be used for anything relating to the club. Its a forum we discuss transfers, fees, wages, ticket office and every other aspect of the club.
