Txiki Begiristain

Imagine being told back in May that after the transfer window, our 4 fullbacks would still be Kolarov, Zab, Clichy and Sagna. I'd have seriously harmed myself. Crazy really. Hopefully it's a good decision!
Yup, most likely next summer. All those bar Kolarov are out of contract. Even Kolarov have 1 yr left next summer.

Would love to see the financial details for the players we have loaned out. Tbh if the figures we can see being banded about are true Txiki has had a shocker of a transfer window in terms of the players going out.

The one that really puzzles me is Nasri. If he has a 3 year contract and Pep wanted to keep him why have the club let him leave and then pay a chunk of his wages. Absolutely ludicrous.

I'm glad i didn't have to say goodbye to zabba as well as joe,i've needed the samaritans as it is lol

Shows the difference between dealing with other English clubs and those in Europe. Bony probably the worst of the players we have been trying to offload today and it's the only deal which in financial terms is even approaching being acceptable.
If Valencia are paying all of Mangala's wages as reported then that's okay too, Nasri's wages were always going to be a problem although I find it hard to credit Hart being on £130,000 a week.

Sadly all those signings have one thing in common they were sold for less than purchased, in some instances considerably, and in the case of Dzeko, Tevez for fees you would have been lucky to pick up a half decent championship prospect for let alone two top class international strikers.

Similarly Barry was sold for 2m and Lescott left on a free in the summer having failed to secure a transfer in the January window.

Would you say the fees received for Tevez, Barry, Dzeko were comparable with there talents and the market at the time?

We let Tevez go almost on a free because we wanted to keep him for the season we did. He had a year left on his deal. The ages of Lescott and Barry were crucial in their values plummeting too. Dzeko is a donkey. We overpaid for him and got back far more than he's worth. Jovetic was a similar thing. Other than Carlos who was genuinely class, those players got moved on for what they were worth. Nothing more and nothing less. Their records since they left us speak volumes (again Carlos is the exception because he was genuinely class).

What makes you have no doubt that we can sell them next summer if clubs weren't exactly fighting over them this summer? It's obviously possible that their stock will rise at their loan clubs but "no doubt"?
There will be a lot more time to do deals, I don't think Pep knew who he wanted to move on straight away nor did we know who we definitely had in. The euros also having an impact with players returning late.

I think just playing a solid amount of games will raise their stock nevermind potentially having a great season.

Will be interesting to see how their performances go when they're told around December/January that their contracts won't be extended. Luckily all 3 of them have been model pros in their careers. We need to be able to rely on them for a full season.

It appears that Pep wanted everybody who was surplus, cleared out of the dressing room ASAP. All who remain, know who is charge if they did not know before. Tixki has obliged and cleared players out. Pep now has his squad. Fullbacks in future Windows may be reviewed and some who were reprieved this time round, may be on their way in 12 months.

Questions remain.
Who sanctioned the purchase of Mangala at that price?
Why did Bony, prolific at Swansea, fall short at City?
Why did Joe play immaculately - short balls - in his final game, yet in the friendly with Arsenal hit his first two balls long?

Im not sure I agree with the merits of Dzeko and if we did overpay for Jovetic, and was a donkey, surely Txiki as to take a bit of responsibilty for that as he signed him. I still would argue selling players to Juventus, Roma, Everton you would expect to accrue more than 27 million for three players. However we will have to agree to disagree on this one.

However thanks for the well argued response and please note although Ive criticised Txiki on outgoing sales I think his recruitment this summer has been excellent.
