Txiki Begiristain

Not difficult, Ronaldo was sold before he reached his peak, they were desperate to hang on to him Barry was sold by us after his best years when we no longer wanted him, same with Dzeko, Tevez, Lescott. None were sold against our wishes we had won titles with them the value of that can't be counted in transfer fees.
Why do you care, as long as the club are comfortable and it doesn't impact on new buys, why on earth should we be bothered.

Well said, but just how is it that so many posters do not understand this?

A better comparison is that we sold SWP for a big profit – because at that time we were a club vulnerable to having our best players taken from us.

For me it is easy to understand. Since the takeover we have not had any need or motivation whatsoever to sell players we want to retain. Ergo, it is simple logic that we have not (in the main) sold a player on the way up to his peak and have therefore not made a profit on the purchase price.

Equally it follows that every player we have sold has been past the peak and we got less than we paid – often well past their peak so we got considerably less – and sometimes because of other factors that meant we were keen to shed people from the wage bill and get them away from the squad we accepted taking a hit.

It really is that simple

The same logic applies when considering our purchases. Every club and agent knows that we are only interested in buying the best players (actual or potential) so we are needing to pay a premium

I am sure we fans could not do better – despite there being so many that clearly think that they can

Exactly. You said it much better than I did. Thank you.

It appears that Pep wanted everybody who was surplus, cleared out of the dressing room ASAP. All who remain, know who is charge if they did not know before. Tixki has obliged and cleared players out. Pep now has his squad. Fullbacks in future Windows may be reviewed and some who were reprieved this time round, may be on their way in 12 months.

Questions remain.
Who sanctioned the purchase of Mangala at that price?
Why did Bony, prolific at Swansea, fall short at City?
Why did Joe play immaculately - short balls - in his final game, yet in the friendly with Arsenal hit his first two balls long?

a) the board
b) Set up not to his strengths
c) Not a single opposition player putting pressure on Joe

It's why you see Real, Barca etc etc spending huge sums and not recouping anything like.

We are at the same table.

You are once again grossly overstating what has gone on. Other than Mangala and Bony can you point me in the direction of any other transfers under Txiki's watch which have not been able to sell?

I'll help. There aren't any. Dzeko. Gone as soon as he wanted him gone. Jovetic. Same. Balotelli. Same. Negredo. Same. Javi Garcia. Same. Rodwell. Same. Begiristain's record is stained by the Mangala and Bony transfers but it still remains a fantastic record both in terms of values paid for players and values we got for players we didn't want.

Yup.

At this moment in time, the only major stains on Txiki's transfer record are Bony and Mangala. We paid too much for them and they have not worked out as City players. However, both players still have the potential to do well elsewhere so our loss on them may not be that bad in the the grand scheme of things. We can pore over the why's and wherefore's but all club's get transfers wrong and when you spend big like City do, there's a fair chance you will cock-up expensively. The trick is to learn from your mistakes and constantly improve at each aspect of your business.

When it comes to outgoings this window, you have to bear in mind that City did not want to sell to English clubs, which really restricted the opportunities of finding buyers who could afford the players we wanted out.

City have not had the window that I was hoping for (but not really expecting) but I have to say that I like what we have done and, from the outside, it looks like Txiki has had a good summer. He may have pulled off a mini-masterstroke getting one of Barca's keepers. We won't really know how well he has done though until some, as yet unknown, future point. Several major siginings have yet to play a game for us. The main ones to have played, Stones and Nolito, already look worth every penny paid for them but Stones, for instance, could go on to be the best CB in the world or he could flop spectacularly, it's just too early to know. I am though very optimistic that City have invested wisely this summer.

On a long-term view, City remain very much on an upward trajectory, IMO, in pretty much every aspect of the club; not least those that are the responsibility of the DoF.

It's a totally different scenario. We have a new manager and have brought in 9 players. We got the players in first and then were left with players who weren't going to play and clubs knew we had no bargaining position as we needed to move the players on.

It will be different in subsequent windows. We will be able to dictate terms if clubs want our players. This time we weren't able to do that

Why does our transfer business upset so many of our so called fans, if the accountants are happy, if our owners are happy, if are manager is happy. Why does it bother you?

Think a few just have a beef with cheeky , but just seen Mario gone to Nice on a free what did we get for him?
