Not difficult, Ronaldo was sold before he reached his peak, they were desperate to hang on to him Barry was sold by us after his best years when we no longer wanted him, same with Dzeko, Tevez, Lescott. None were sold against our wishes we had won titles with them the value of that can't be counted in transfer fees.
Why do you care, as long as the club are comfortable and it doesn't impact on new buys, why on earth should we be bothered.
Well said, but just how is it that so many posters do not understand this?
A better comparison is that we sold SWP for a big profit – because at that time we were a club vulnerable to having our best players taken from us.
For me it is easy to understand. Since the takeover we have not had any need or motivation whatsoever to sell players we want to retain. Ergo, it is simple logic that we have not (in the main) sold a player on the way up to his peak and have therefore not made a profit on the purchase price.
Equally it follows that every player we have sold has been past the peak and we got less than we paid – often well past their peak so we got considerably less – and sometimes because of other factors that meant we were keen to shed people from the wage bill and get them away from the squad we accepted taking a hit.
It really is that simple
The same logic applies when considering our purchases. Every club and agent knows that we are only interested in buying the best players (actual or potential) so we are needing to pay a premium
I am sure we fans could not do better – despite there being so many that clearly think that they can
