Wasn't there an allegation that the small company who bought the image rights was set up with ADUG funding? The project Longbow thing. If that's true, then UEFA might view that as devious workaround involving undeclared owner investment. That might also spill into the Zuculini ownership links back to ADUG funding. To me, the picture currently painted looks properly dodgy.

I note that the Times piece talks of 'a CL campaign' being under threat. That is a lot more restrained than some chunterings. I can see this turning into a suspended ban, and some sanctions like last time - that's an escalation from the previous ban (saving face for UEFA), but not too bad.

I fully believe the City statement that the accounts are legal. I don't think that will be contested, beyond a difference in interpretation of related companies, as highlighted by PB. It doesn't sound as if the 'interpretation' issue will have legs to cause any significant punishment though - I thought the self-definition mentioned by PB was after the 2014 issue anyway - unless City wilfully ignored/went against the UEFA regs then. Based on what I've read, I suspect the latter is an irritation rather than a problem.

We said that last time and got sanctioned, that's why fan's are concerned.

I don't recall any statement being as robust as that when we were sanctioned. It had a more conciliatory tone to it, while politely alluding to some disagreements with UEFA regarding particular aspects of their decision. It was pretty much a case of "We don't agree with everything you say but fair enough, we'll take our punishment and continue to work towards complying with FFP in the future".

This time the statement has a "Bring it on" tone to it. I don't think that's necessarily just aimed at UEFA as I think they've got as many, if not more, questions to answer. I reckon it's also a challenge to those clubs who are driving this agenda.

Is this the reason we are being Investigated now before the Court ruling?
Cant see it is unless - and this is just me completely guessing, UEFA may think they may well lose the FFP case . They can then say to the Cartel we did what you asked but now FFP is illegal so we cant do anything. Like most of this its pure guess work .

The flip side is they are confident of winning so are happy to crack on.

The allegations
- Manipulated sponsorship income

Leaked documents suggested income that was supposed to come from Abu Dhabi-based sponsors was in effect paid directly by the owners, in contravention of FFP rules.

- Third-party ownership rules may have been breached
City are alleged not to have disclosed an involvement with a fund that owned economic rights of players, including one they signed.

- Manipulated image-rights payments
A scheme called “Project Longbow” sold players’ image rights to another company, which was then reimbursed by the Abu Dhabi United Group. It meant the image rights were taken off the salary bill.

- City paid the agent of Jadon Sancho £200,000 over his move from Watford when Sancho was 14.
From the Times.

I think -

1) Won't be something they can do anything about. It's clearly against the idea of FFP but UEFA has no jurisdiction on deciding where Etihadis allowed to get its money.

2) This seems pretty black and white because there's going to be a limit on how much they have to disclose and they've either followed that or not.

3) I think this is the most contentious one, the most grey, and it's hard to predict how bad it is without knowing more.

4) Is something that happens all the time but the stakes are pretty low. We could well get a youth signing ban just like we have before, and Liverpool, Chelsea have had before.

The relevant thing re timescale is whether it goes to the CAS. Just had a quick look at the recent AC Milan case and it took 18 months from start with UEFA to final award from the CAS. So I think you could be looking at midseason 2021 for a conclusion. This could be the longest BM thread ever!

Pretty much what I wrote a few posts above (just shorter!). Two areas where, while fully legal under European laws, may have trampled all over the spirit (and maybe rules) of UEFA regs.

Sancho will be PL not UEFA level, I'd think.

I’m struggling to be bothered by this. Time for City to stand up and prove their innocence. If they get caught out then so be it but hopefully they challenge the whole FFP process.
