Uefa plans third European club competition from 2021

So champions league will be just that, champions only, cup winners will play in cup winners cup the winner joinng champions league the following season and the rest 2nd 3rd and 4th teams in UEFA league with as now winner going in CL. At least every team in the CL will be champions either of the league or of Cup Winners cup or Europa league. Have a max of 16 in CL two leagues of eight, home and away top 4 fromm each league into a quarter final with knockout thereafter. Simples.
Sorry should have added this is what it should be and based on pure speculation.

Yeah, that's not going to happen though. They're talking about 3 competitions with 32 teams each, so no change to the CL.

Hate uefa and there competition since they changed the format! You can finish 4th 3rd and 2nd and be named champion league winners! Either change the name or have a competition just for champions of your coountry like before.

Agreed, at the moment it is a European Cup with the same format as all other international cup competitions mini league followed by knockout. IMO it is not a league, nor are there just champions in it. No chance of that happening UEFA only care about money they just want the "biggest" teams which draw the largest TV audiences so that they can rake it in from advertising and sponsorship.

Barmy idea, but how about:

Champions League - a league format (you have to win a league format to enter it and it's called "LEAGUE" for fuck's sake!) over a season with the Champions of the leagues around Europe, you play ALL the teams in the comp, not just the ones you're randomly drawn against, and the team that finishes top of the league at the end of the season are the Champions of Europe.

Cup Winners' Cup - a cup format (you have to win a cup format to enter it and it's called "CUP") with knock-out rounds to the final

The bobbins haven't won owt but feel sorry for you so best give you a spot in a European trophy (basically what most of the Champions League is without the champions) - a league and cup format.

Last year's semi finals were competed by Real Madrid, Bayern Munich... fair enough... and Liverpool who haven't been champions of their own league for 28 years and Roma who haven't been champions of their own league for 17 years. In the CHAMPIONS league.

I felt a bit strange about us being in it when we hadn't won the league for four years!

Burnley maybe, but Everton, Leicester, Watford etc are trying to build towards more than just survival, and a competition they could actually win would definitely appeal to them.
Well when these teams are 3rd from bottom in the Premier i can see the fans loving that.

It doesn't take up any more time in the calendar, it would run parallel to Europa/CL.

Also why are people pretending European football is about the best vs. the best when the 4th, 5th, 6th sometimes 7th best sides from top countries are in European competitions already?

Makes a mockery of the early rounds of the league cup as the qualifiers for this competition wont be in it. Would you tune it to watch Leicester v which ever mid table side in Europe they get drawn against? We nearly got relegated when we played in the old Uefa cup under Keegan, if you followed one of the teams who qualified would you want the gravy train of the premier league jeopardising the chase after a 3rd tier European competition?

May I ask which leagues you'd propose being in it if only champions are allowed?
