ULEZ Letter

Before you start throwing the toys out the cot and assuming you have understood the issue, it's worth noting the stat about ulez compliance of cars within the zone does not account for many others that drive into the zone from outside. The good news is that may mean the urge for them to drive cleaner vehicles will mean ulez has even greater impact, but the financial impact on these folk is huge and unaccounted for in the stats

If you just bother to read the title of the article I posted (you don't even need to read the whole thing)...

It says "Over 90% of cars driving in outer London".

That includes people driving into London from outside. They are not unaccounted for at all.

It will because the vehicles, (eg in Manchester)will be over 10 years old when the scheme is introduced across GM possibly in 3 years time, cars will be at the back end of their life. When it was originally going to be implemented in 2022 some vehicles were only 7 years old and had plenty of life left. I expect like London (and as was the case for commercial vehicles in Manchester) a subsidy will be available, that’s an incentive a lot of people won’t want to miss but some (small percentage admittedly) will just give up driving.
Maybe they will learn from khan's mistakes? I think they could bring it in now, but let residents register current vehicle as exempt on the understanding that the exemption is lost when it changes ownership or in three years time (whichever is earlier). There is nothing wrong with ulez, just khan's wish to railroad it in before he loses his job.

Does it say "over 90% of cars owned by people in outer London"? No.

Yes, but assumes it's the same people every day. Granted some will be.

Eaten up by the same crackpot wankers who think the 15 minute city is a conspiracy theory to enslave people.

Saw a rabble of these loons protesting outside BBC Birmingham a few weeks back. Every conspiracy, 15 minute cities, antivax, the lot.

One woman tried to give me a leaflet, and I firmly gestured with a brushing motion of the arm, not to bother.

It’s more than 10 years for petrol cars, isn’t it? Surely the existing tax they pay per year to run these cars could be factored into a newer car budget with no tax payable?

Only applies to Diesels not Petrol.

only applies to diesels manufactured before 2005.

You can trade in your 18 year old diesel car and get £2000 towards the purchase of a car which is compliant... providing you live in the ULEZ.

You could seriously upgrade your vehicle with a compliant one for £2000.

but hey ..... let's make it political.

Incorrect it’s diesels made before 2016 and petrol before 2006, so a decent 7 year old diesel is worth £2k scrapage
