United (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

The pen was technically correct as there was a clear foul. But it was soft in the sense that you see half a dozen of those grabs every game which go unpunished.
Its not just about the grab(although it should have been) its about the flight of the ball and stopping rodri getting to it, maguire got away with a far worse one later in the game

Seems that the United fans joined the PL in not realizing that unfair accusations or ridicule would stimulate rather than just anger.

Let's just say the Keano chants were counter productive.

According to the Kubler Ross change curve developed to explain the death of a loved one he is currently in denial, next it will be anger, then depression, before acceptance. Enjoy the ride Ratty
Sorry mate but he, and many rags, will never get beyond "denial" as their media sycophants will constantly tell them every scraped win is "turning a corner", every signing is the "new liver-wasting, wife-beating drunk" and every managerial appointment is "the new GPC". The dumb shits will believe every word.
Some, like the zebra pants mob and the Norwich fans, will get to anger, and many will get to depression after yet another defeat, but they'll soon revert to denial after another VAR infused win. They'll never reach acceptance which means they'll never address the problem in an appropriate manner.
Long may it continue.

What a terrible team they are and i think the media are letting them off with it. When City lose a couple games (be it rarely) we are battered for spending so much. They had 11 international players on the pitch, they've got CL winners in the squad and have spent an insane amount of money. Their manager is only bringing in players/staff that have been at Ajax at some point, its all very very weird. But long may it continue, in fact we want him to keep the faith with him until they are bottom half of the table and preferably relegated. They have become what we were, going into a Derby with a punchers chance and getting spanked most of the time.

Thought we were a bit off it in the first half, the only bit of joy the rags got was from us playing sloppy passes and several were guilty of it. In the second half it was obvious that Pep had a word to cut out the sloppiness and the Rags were barely in the game. Bernie got MoM, thought he was brilliant but IMO the difference was Rodri. Ran everything, always available and always demanding from his team mates. I honestly believe we don't lose that Arsenal game with Rodri in the team, he just brings out the best in everyone. Also a quick mention for Grealish, come in for a lot of stick this season but i thought he was magnificent (much like the other night) and he should have had at least one assist, again. Hopefully we're starting to go through the gears a bit now.

There used to be an annual City v United golf match, and a few times a cricket match.
The last cricket match was at the Lancashire ground late 60’s I think. My Dad took me and it kicked off big time, Police were out in force, that was the last one.

I don't think it was soft at all, it's ridiculous the amount of grabbing, pulling and holding that's crept into the game in recent years, would only take a couple of penalties awarded to nip it in the bud, all of that said never would I have imagined that given at the swamp.

Not my take, but I was replying to the comment that Kelly Cates saying it was soft but correct was baffling. I wasn’t baffled!

I wish I knew some rags. Years of having the piss taken at work by plastic rags, now I dont know any :(

Give the rags some extra grief from me :)
In our golf Whattsapp group it’s about 60/40 in favour of the rags, mostly old boys. When they beat us last season they were so fucking giddy even though they were assisted in one of the most blatant wrong offside’s.

Last night and this morning the Rags have been posting comments like “glad I didn’t go out to watch” “Ten Hag is a clueless wanker” “ I didn’t watch as I knew we’d get beat” “ City are a well oiled machine” “no passion, Bruno is a twat and Anthony needs a slap” and on Rodri “he went down like a Japanese sniper” can’t work that one out.

Anyway, us Blues have replied with, fuck all, silence is Golden and we know they’re hurting so we’ve refrained from commenting, honestly feels so good they are self combusting, fucking brilliant.

Great to watch Keane shrink into an unkempt ,embarrassing old man ,after Haaland ,in after match interview said they were chanting Keane ,as I was about to take the penalty. I don't know why.
Always hated Keane but have to say, he’s the best unbiased rag pundit & always has a good word to say about us - unlike nutty Neville who can’t get past the glazers

The weirdness of VAR has intervened here. Normally VAR can't intervene because the referee has "seen" the pulling and not given it on the pitch. Here, he's been asked if he saw it and he's said no, which at that point triggers the rest of the protocol. Once you get a look on a screen then it obviously is a foul.

Ive said before, weirdly this is more to do with the flight of the ball than anything else, oliver believed that without that tug that rodri was going to reach that ball and potentially score, maguire got away with a much more obvious one in the second half.

United fans should be more annoyed with hojlund than anything because he lost his man, shame he isnt quite as good at that in the opposing penalty area.

Happy blue Monday. How did Anthony not get a red for violent conduct? Haaland was fouled in the box but apparently it’s the flight of the ball or something. I thought that too was a penalty. Who’s to say Haaland couldn’t have got a rebound tap in with the pace of the lad. If you go hands on with another player you are risking it. My red pals are very glum today.enjoy your day blues

No, I understand that it's a mitigating factor, but the prevailing narrative is "why doesn't VAR get involved all the time" and the reason why it doesn't or didn't get involved elsewhere - ie with Maguire on Haaland - is because the referee "saw" it and didn't give it in real time. VAR only intervenes if the ref has missed something.
