Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola: "I'm proud of the young players and how they played. At that level you need to be more clinical with the last pass but it's difficult against United. We are happy. I want to try to win but now we'll focus on the next competitions."

Asked why Vincent Kompany came off at half-time: "Vincent told me he could not play any more."

I agree with the statement the trouble is our first team are playing this way at the moment. What has happened to Aguero?? He seems to play anywhere but in the box where a striker should be. Pep's tactics have been sussed out and the players trying to play them are not good enough to overcome being pressured.

As for Vinny....he has been a great servant but sadly it is over.

The problem is that how long you rest you top players we will have no chance against barca anyway. So why not use the best players in matches like this. Its a bout winning mentality...

Not for me. This cup is the poor one of the lot. Only starts being taken seriously in the semi finals. 21 changes in the dippers game last night. Even Div 1 teams rotate!

West Brom is the important game for now. Our top players cannot be expected to play 5 games in 13 days at this time of the season. It was 100% the right decision for me. If anything I wouldn't have brought Aguero and Sterling on.

Pep has been brought in to change things and win us the big two not another one of these. It will take time to get it right. We are still top of the league regardless of results and can only get better. It's the sequence of results that has been disappointing but I didn't see anyone questioning him after the first 10 games.

Let's see where we are at the end of Dec after what is a brutal month fixture wise. Not having to play in this in December and Jan will help us long term.

We don't win on sat after resting everyone tonight and we are heading into crisis.

I think we already are, which is crazy being top of the league. Pep's interview's are getting more erratic and the pressure is only going to get worse.

Anyone pleased with the way we played , could and should have been 2 up at half time , impressed with maffeo and garcia , easy chance for Nacho and a nailed on pen , blatant foul for their goal , anyway feck em the futures bright for this blue

By the way, for anyone who hasn't read Pep Confidential, he had the exact same issues at Bayern: players lacking freedom and creativity because they had an image of how Pep wanted them to play. After a few months it clicked and they started banging in goals. For the record I think we probably would've won that with a different front 3. Navas was good but he's a crosser and we don't have anyone who scores crosses.

So you are saying Peps a fraud?
No, I'm saying IF he was ever going to be shown up as being not all that he's made out to be, constantly, 'typically' it would be at City.

It was a tongue in cheek reference to typical City - but apologies if it was made at the expense of your mentor and idol who can do no wrong.

its a bitter pill to swallow,,,,im no manager but to me a derby against them lot you turn up and play for the badge,,pep has overlooked this rightly or wrongly with his selection,,he's made a decision which has hurt the fans which resulted in losing the game, no one realy gives a shit about the lge cup but we do give a shit about losing a derby

Think I'll stick to off topic, some of the stuff being posted on here beggars belief

It doesn't. They won so they want to rub it in.

had we played the first XI we'd have probably beaten them, but then we'd have paid the price at the weekend or vs barcelona. I'd rather not get beat, but given the choice I'd have picked tonight.

Gutted and now worried, 2 pnts from 9 in league, 1 pnt from 6 in ecl, knocked out of efl and lost a fcking derby to boot.Cant see where the next goals coming from too.

Some embarrassing comments.

We are still in decent shape and watch us fly these next few games.

My only issue is we need to make the opposition goalkeeper work a little harder and never play Navas on the left, he will always check and pass inside.

An error from Pep, compounded by Sterling not getting into it.

But still very talented and isn't Pep supposed to be the manager that makes them better than the sum of the parts?
yeah, but some of the players are simply just not good enough. He is not magician after all. The Bayern squad he left, is clearly notch or two above, so it wasn't going to be perfect as he is not obviously changing his philosophy.
