United post-match thread

Obviously it wasn't a good performance but a bit of perspective is needed! They fielded probably the best 11 they could and beat us 1-0 and whilst we were utterly toothless they weren't much better!
Not trying to disguise our issues but they have more to worry about than us in my opinion!
But there is no hiding that going forward we were shocking tonight! I thought the back 4 and Fernando and in particular Garcia were good! Think we missed kompanys presecence when he went off! But as for going forward that was up their with the Pearce era!

Positives were Maffeo and Garcia and that we have finally been able to give silva and Fernandinho a rest, plus it looks like know one has picked up any knocks (even kompany)

Negatives were when we got in their half. Kelechi and Sane both he nights to forget! Extremely poor by both of them.

Down to the players, we've got too many who just aren't good enough, or consistent enough.

We need a fully fit Kompany, or a defender as good as him who's not always injured, a monster in midfield and a clinical, greedy goal poacher.

For what we've spent we should be unstoppable but we continue, bar two or three examples, to select players a level or two below the best in their position. In my opinion although we have 3 or 4 better players than we had in 2012, our strongest XI is still weaker than that title winning side. We (I?) still miss Tevez, as a player, and Barry and Bellamy. The last two not good enough now, but we haven't replaced them adequately.

We talk a good game, at high level, as a club, about ambition, but to match that, and the targets set as a club by bringing in Pep, is signings of the quality to win more games, more easily. I'm talking about signing players like Bale, Dele Alli, Busquets, Alaba. Until we sign players that good, we'll struggle.

Pep: "I'm so proud of our performance. Congratulations to United on the next step. I'm so proud of our young players, how they played."
Pep: "Pablo Maffeo was amazing against Rashford and Pogba. He won almost all of the duels."
Pep: "Kompany told me he could not play any more. That's why (I took him off)."

He obviously wasn't interested in the EFL Cup or whatever it is called - can we just hold onto that thought that until we feel better...

46 quid to watch us go to the swamp and not have a shot on target

That's the most inept performance in terms of commitment and passion displayed in a derby I've seen

Had Pellegrini served up that dross we'd be baying for blood

He did last year with a full strength side when we drew 0-0 in an equally passionless display!

We lost to their best eleven and lost to a goal that there was two fouls in the build up..The kids did great obviously tiring in the second half. At the end of the day it was obvious pep was going to play a second string because of CL and West brom at the weekend..It was more important for them than us..ffs they are singing wembley wembley while pep is talking..How times change ,they used to play the kids in this tournament now we do...and as much as winning a trophy is great its only the carling cup..At least we learnt that Maffeo and Garcia are ready to step up.
