• Chelsea £842m - 3 titles
• Man City £704m - 1 title
• L'pool £602m - 0 title
• United £532m- 13 titles

Given the fact we have had to overpay in the early days to build a team to get us into a position to challenge, then had to get the next tier of players in, and the fact of inflation over the years meaning that 30 million spent 10+ years ago on Ferdinand is probably 50-60 million in todays money (plus the rest, Van Nistelroy, Veron, Rooney) I don't think the above list is of any concern.
Plus now there are genuine challengers for the title, unlike a lot of years where Utd just heavily outspent the rest

This!

I've only seen them 7 times this season, twice against us and 5 others on TV. Record of those games p7 w1 d2 l4 My eldest lad says I should start following them after 45 yrs following City because with a record like that I could get them relegated with fewer points than QPR. I couldn't really do it but its tempting.

Nah man let the little raggy have his fun! It's the only thing they have, sadly for them!

Anyone understand why Ferguson played a weakened team against Chelsea?

He had a chance to dent their chances of the top 4. He could have struck a blow against one of his chief rivals but didn't take it. If he wanted to give fringe players a game, then do so in the other 2 games.

Chelsea will be significantly stronger next season just by appointing a permanent manager (unless they make a catastrophic mistake in that appointment) and if they sign a good centre-forward then they will instantly be title contenders.

The only thing that could stop them is if they were outside the Champions League places which would affect their chances of signing a Falcao type centre-forward.

In hindsight, the defeat of Man Utd was actually very bad news for Utd and City for next season.

The game didn't matter to united, so it came down to who did he want to fuck off the most, out of benitez or wenger ? He dislikes both, but wenger will still be a rival next year, benitez won't, so hurting wenger was the better option.

The 3 points didn't matter in terms of the League title this season, but Chelsea are much closer to the finished article than Arsenal.

If CFC get into the Champions League, it makes it so much easier for them to get the 1 or 2 additions that would turn them into Title contenders

CFC are further behind Utd than City, but they spent £85m in the Summer on Hazard, Oscar, Moses etc and have assembled a very talented squad.

Think about next season for CFC:

1) Signficantly less games
2) Manager position resolved
3) Wont have to integrate 4-5 additions and new signings will be better in 2nd season
4) They will surely strengthen the centre-forward position

They might have qualified for top 4 regardless of yesterday's result, but Utd should have done all they could to stop them.

They weren't my thoughts Marvin, just how I thought he'd view it, but your points are valid if he was looking at the bigger picture. He has personal history with both wenger and benitez, one will stay, one won't, so I doubt he'd look beyond that.

Also as de niro points out on the main forum, chelsea winning also might make us take a risk tomorrow night with team selection, as we still need points to make sure of third place, which risks injuries/suspension for the cup final, and I'm sure he'd like his to be the only team from (close to) Manchester to win a trophy this season.
