They will always be around the top 4, even going for the title next year as lets not kid our self Mata, RVP and Rooney will destroy a lot of teams like we do with Silva, Nasri, Beast and Aguero.
The one factor for me is the winning mentality they have had drummed into them for years under Ferguson. Those players are more or less all coming to the end of their Utd careers, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Carrick, Giggs and Moyes is a long drop from Ferguson so the new players he buys, although top quality players, I just cannot see him getting the same out of the players or installing the fear into them Ferguson did.
They will always challenge but they have lost a lot of the fear factor now and teams are no longer afraid of them

Rooney will not be there next year, and i also doubt that RVP will be!

I can only assume that Rooney will be heading to Chelsea in the summer, hence why they have sold him to the vermin

united in the Europa League will be somewhat reminiscent of our one season sojourn in the third tier of English Football.

Away games at anonymous locations in crumbling stadiums, full of curious locals who haven't seen their local team in the flesh for many a moon. On the pitch, journeymen pros all of a sudden find a few extra gears to their game in the knowledge that, as far as their pedestrian careers are concerned, this is very much their Cup Final.

Let's hope united can put the afterburners on and finish sixth as it'll make fantastic viewing.

It's not the united way.

Any one else not only sick of hearing this but also confused to as what it actually means? 2 examples in the last 24 hours....

1. We dont sack our managers, it's not the united way.

Fuckin hell, easy to say that when you've had the best manager in the world for the past 26 years!! When I ask how many managers they went through between busby and slurgie they look at me with that vacant look. Think it worked out a different manager every 2 and a half years.

2. Not sure where Mata will fit in, he plays best in a 4-3-3 formation, but that's not the united way.

What?? Get with the times. 40 years ago teams played 2-3-5. Barcelona sometimes play 4-6-0 and still win 5 nil!

Well long may they continue the tradition of doing it the 'united way'.

Mata will make that team tick. Watch them march towards the top 4 now. Mourinho has his own moribund, boring and defensive footballing strategy for his team but making premiership rivals stronger allowing them your best or second best player is not astute management.

If you knew anything about football you would know that they need more than one player, what makes you think that Moyes actually knows what he is doing

They will not get top 4

Bit harsh. Parachute Mata into the team yesterday and they'd still finish outside the top 4 sure, but if they get Rooney and RVP back for a sustained period their competition for the place isn't that great. Even if he still continues to have absolutely no idea what he's doing, fielding enough good players in a loose formation will overrun a lot of teams in the league. Liverpool and Spurs should be in the stronger position, Liverpool especially IMO. There should be serious questions asked of Rodgers if he can't get them 4th place from here.

That said, Mata is clearly morale purchase, not a tactical one. If his arrivals allows the rest of the team to up their game 5/10%, that may be enough regardless of his tactical impact.

And that said, why the fuck are we talking about Mata? Don't fall for the PR! They just got booted out of the Capital one cup over two legs by the bottom of the league :D

Always told my rag mates once BaconChops goes they will go back to before 1992 around top 10 winning the occasional cup and beating Liverpool
