Drunken United fan calls 999 and demands to speak to Fergie after cup defeat

Greater Manchester Police said the distressed supporter demanded to speak to former Reds' boss Sir Alex to discuss the result just after the match finished

A drunk Manchester United fan dialled 999 and demanded to speak to Sir Alex Ferguson after the Reds' defeat last night.

Police received the bizarre and amusing call at 10.30pm on Wednesday from a man in Crumpsall, north Manchester.

Moments earlier, United were dumped out of the league cup in dramatic fashion by Sunderland, who won 2-1 on penalties after extra time.

The distressed supporter demanded to speak to former Reds' boss Sir Alex to discuss the result.

Greater Manchester Police released a statement on their GMP Manchester North Facebook page on Thursday morning which read: “Last night, at approximately 10.30pm a man from the Crumpsall area of north Manchester rang 999 in a drunken state demanding to speak to Sir Alex Ferguson about last night’s result.

“Obviously, it can be a sad and depressing moment when you’re football team loses a game, however can we all please remember that 999 is to be used for emergencies only.

“For any other police related enquiries that are not an emergency, you can ring 101.

"If you would like to speak to Sir Alex about recent football results we here at GMP Manchester North can only suggest you try ringing Manchester United FC directly as you will probably (not definitely) have a much better chance of getting through to him there rather than ringing the police."

Typical of the media to withhold Moyes' name...

Oh now that's very good.........

I heard it was Slurgie who was so pissed out of his head that he's demented and was in fact trying to talk to himself.

A call from North Manchester? Can't be a rag, must be a blue on a wind-up.

Soon to add an extra £10m to their total for Mata if he replaces Fellini or £20m if he replaces Young.

Money well spent lol

Was going to point that out also. I expect them to go for a 4231 with mata unless moves is brain dead. That means they need to keep Fellaini and carrick as holding midfielders - so add £20m to their total..........

Picture this - you're in charge of the club.
Your highly respected manager has decided to move on.
You've got a half decent squad, but like all chairmen, you want to push on to the next level if possible.
As the end of the 2012/13 season approaches and you know that change is imminent, who do you go to?
Who's got that something special?
Who might just be available?
Well, all I can say is, well done Bill Kenwright for appointing the highly talented, personable and polished Roberto Martinez.
And, of course, well done the Glazers and United - the gift that just keeps on giving.
Did I mention how much I'm loving 2014?
Just need to mention the style with which the new Duncan Edwards aka Phil 'The Face' Jones took his penalty last night. Exquisite!

They stink of complete arrogance, it was as though appointing Moyes under Fergies word was to be trusted because they 'are Manchester United' and they had a squad that could win no matter what, they only won the league last year because they shelled out big money for one of the best strikers in England at the time. They trusted Fergie completely despite Moyes' record of never winning a single thing in football and someone who also had a record of turning really crap teams into crap teams that played crap football that was good enough to keep them in the league. It has all been massively exposed over the last few games just how tired, clinging on and deluded a club they really are. Yes Ferguson knitted it all together but you cannot forget the cost it took to win the league last year in buying Van Persie, but where is he now??? They have the cheek to say we buy the league yet they are now forking out 37 million for Mata and it is touted they are going to be spending even more on other players, what's the difference?

I hate to say it but Fergie was lucky to have players like Scholes who you have to admit were absolutely brilliant players but now who has come in to replace that quality, Carrick? An aging, slow, cumbersome player, even Gareth Barry is a million times better. The only thing that is keeping them going is players like Rooney who are world class but they are playing for themselves, even Van Persie you sense just doesn't want to be there anymore. Last night it showed that they have no spine to their team, we have a quality central core of players that are probably among the best in their positions in the world. It really annoys me how they think they could bring in Moyes and kick on without spending a money all because that team won the title and because 'they are Manchester United', hilarious.

If they had brought in a visionary manager like Martinez I'd be worried because they have shown they aren't afraid to spend and he would of completely reshaped that team with a large group of quality players. Their signing now of Mata is just predictable and ridiculous because they have bought him for 37 million yet we got Negredo who is currently leading the country in terms of goals scored and he cost 15 million less! We also got Navas who is turning out to be an excellent buy for just 17 million and we also got Fernandinho who I think is world class for around 30 million......

Now don't get me wrong but would you rather have those 3 players (Fernadinho, Negredo and Navas) for 74 million or Mata for 37..... It is just ridiculous they are spending that much money on one player when it isn't what they need and it suggests they think their squad is better than it actually is. They are showing they are still arrogant, still unwilling to move away from the Fergie era and they are going to pay because with Mata they still will struggle to get in the top 4, they are out of all cups and they have no chance in the Champions League.

To be fair you can manipulate these figures which eever side you are on - add in Lescott/Nastasic instead of Demicellis and replace Ferdinad with Vidic and it falls on their side. Buit its good response to the typical "bought the league" bile

Either way it is always going to be obvious we have spent more but that was the cost of going from an average mid-table to lower end of the table team to one challenging for silverware on all fronts. On the side though we are doing things right at least and investing in an academy which will produce squad players and that is the target. United however are like us 4 years ago, they have a shite team and now need to spend very big just to compete at that higher level. They keep saying they have the best academy in the world and all their players come straight from Manchester's playing fields yet I cannot name a single lineup with a United academy player.
