Seriously though...Nited fans must be the most gullible in the world
Remember that supposed 200mil transfer war chest? Conveniently mentioned just as the ST renewals are due?
Looks like they are not even going to spend a third of that
I just don't understand it to be honest
Regardless of how we percieve them...Nited are one of the biggest sports brands in the world and have revenue streams coming out of their arse
But they always seem to be scrabbling around with lowball offers only to panic buy as deadline day arrives on the horizon
Either Woodward is seriously incompetent...or he acts under instruction from the leeches above him
Either way it's hilarious
I've got a mate who knows people on the inside at United through his contacts with former and current players, I was out on Saturday afternoon with him and United came up as a topic (as they'd just got beat and I was trying to take the piss but in a subtle manner, not sure I pulled it off, but I digress.....). He informs me that they did, indeed, have a £200m "war chest" and now have £140m after the Shaw/Herrera signings. The issue he said was a combination of needing players that fit into Van Gaal's style of play, that aren't concerned with a minimum of 1 season out of Europe, and that, when you consider wages etc, are still "value for money". Apparently United and Juventus did indeed agree a fee of £47m for Vidal, however when United did the sums and worked out, with bonuses, wages, signing on fee etc it was going to cost them £87m all told, they pulled the plug as it was deemed too expensive.
He also laid the blame for United's currently predicament squarely at the door of Fergie. He blamed him for saddling United with Moyes, a man never up to the task of managing United (apparently during one game last season United were 1-0 down and then conceded another, Giggs turned to Moyes to see what he would do, how he would motivate the players etc and was seen to put his head into his hands and utter, at a level loud enough for most to hear, "This could be 5-0"! Hardly motivational stuff!). He also blames him for not strengthening the squad. Apparently, in his later years in charge, Fergie began to dislike and disagree with the ever increasing cost of buying footballers. Instead of doing what he needed to which was suck it up, understand that it was in no small part down to United that prices were as high as they were, and buying what was needed, Fergie wouldn't spend the money. The Glazers apparently provided a decent sized budget, but the "there's no value in the market" comments were straight from Fergie, he just wouldn't spend as he didn't think the players were worth the money. The outcome, as we can all see now, is a squad made up of inferior players, and a group of aging players who are now leaving/retiring.
