Utd's transfer strategy is in utter disarray.

What is the club with the biggest transfer budget in football doing scrabbling about a week from the deadline?

2nd year running. Heads should roll.

2 years on the run the glazers have brought in a manager in July, and immediately tied them up with a global tour. That is why all this nonsense is happening days before the window closes. Moyes was inheriting the PL champions so he wasn't going to rock the boat, but LVG is taking no prisoners. He's already dispatched of Nani, Zaha, Cleverley with Wellbeck, Hernandez and Anderson also heading towards the exit doors, add to that Evra, Vidic, Ferdinand and the retirement of Giggs and that's the best part of 10 first team players, so you could say there's more happening right now than has done for decades.

I think that when the dust has settled, LVG will have the bones of a fairly decent side. Looking at the proposed personnel... Di Maria, RVP, Mata, Rooney, Herrera, (Vidal/Carvalho),Rojo, Jones, De Gea. And a few decent prospects in Januzij, Wilson and Blackett. It will take a while for a new team, playing a new formation to gel, but I'm optimistic that a man of his experience and the team he has brought in, that they will pull it off.

Why would you be optimistic?

Because he is clearing the decks of deadwood and building a new team with quality signings. Why would that not be a good thing?

If given the time he will get it right but no champs league this season and next will the glazers panic and sack LVG?

That's pretty much a bare bones outfit at best isn't it?
8 players, yep, not enough to actually contest a match.

No academy players either, tut tut

And that's the problem - and why letting Cleverly go seems a bit premature. He's not exactly top class, but you'd have thought they'd bring more in before allowing him to leave. Oh well, shan't cry over it! :-)

£15m for Hernandez = very good business.
£8m for Cleverley = very good business.

Given those figures I'm guessing Spurs will get their arse slapped for Welbeck!

Oh, and nice to see that Hodgson has said he spoke to Shaw about his fitness during the World Cup! I'm sure Turtle will be happy with that news.

But Vidic, Rio and Evra left without getting replacements in first.

If Utd knew what they were doing they'd have sorted their transfers out months back. Leaving it to the last week of the transfer window is playing a lottery. Who knows who will be available at that time. It worked with Di Maria but more through luck than judgement.

Last season City changed manager, and yet did our business early on. Again this Summer we were on tour in America too, again business done. These areno excuses except incompetence

You're right there is a lot of activity at Utd, but mostly negative, Players getting rubbished by fans and the manager. No wonder confidence is low.

Jones is not decent. I could go on.

You do have some star players in you squad, particularly up front, and I like Wilson, but it will count for nothing if you don' sign a top quality central defender

I'm not disputing the quality of most of the players that will be left after this proposed cull but do you not think you're trying to get rid of too many players at once? At this rate you'll have one of the smallest squads in the Premier League unless you bring in at least 7 or 8 new players before the transfer window shuts on Monday night. We might laugh on here at the limitations of some of the players that have gone or are on the way out but Nani, Welbeck, and Hernandez can all still do a job at United IMO. Plus I think letting Vidic go was a mistake - I reckon he was good for another 2 years and you should've gone to great lengths to persuade him to stay. I don't think letting Evra go was the wisest move either, particularly as you've sold Buttner as well.

Obviously no CL takes a financial hit to the coffers, but they managed to paper over the cracks with the 750m adidas deal, on top of the 559m chevrolet deal so there won't be any shortage of cash for the foreseeable. The biggest loss is status. When you have been one of the top teams in the competition for decades it's a kick in the teeth, but imagine if we were in it this season, I cannot see us getting past the group stage with a team in major transition. In answer to your question, I think they have backed him to the hilt and will see it through.
