Explains why he was always praising the Glazers as owners, when everyone could see they were shite. He didn't want to upset his nice little earner did he. Completely looking after his own interests, right till the end, installing an inept manager and even leaving the squad in a mess ensuring he went out on a high. Beautiful.

They may well stay in and around the top 4 this year, quite frankly it doesn't matter if they do or don't as the difference in ourselves and them is like night and day. We are better all over the pitch bar the goalkeeper and there's only so many games he can pull them out of the shit.
We will win the league this year, them getting within 2 points of us, or even going above us due to how the fixtures fall will be a distant memory come May when the trophy is handed to us and they're left with fuck all again.

United have represented Manchester as the major force in football since the 1960s just as Liverpool fc represented that city. That in itself is no slight on either Everton or City but just a matter of historical truth. The shipping resentment certainly was brought up again and again and added to the antagonism, some Liverpudlians taking it far too seriously.The rivalry with Liverpool has died down in reality since the start of the premier league era but we tens to still give the scousers stick due to our history. Since 2008 the rivalry with City has become obviously more intense now , now that you've got the players to challenge for the title.

You seem to be forgetting the 1970s when City were clearly the dominant team in Manchester.

- City won two trophies, including a European trophy to United's one.
- City finished above (and usually well above) United 6 times.
- City were runners up in the League once and were edged out in a four horse race on the last day another time while United never had the faintest sniff of the title.
- City appeared in European competition 4 times to United's once.
- United were relegated.

So please explain how United were the "major force in football" in Manchester during that time.

Let's not forget how many united fans were in the Luton end at Maine Road that day, even though their team was playing that same day and was placed to finish second in the First Division over the course of that final weekend if the results went their way. Their unhealthy obsession with City is nothing new. Nor are their denials about its existence.

Can better that @gordondaviesmoustache remember the dark days of Div 2 & Div 3 & the occasional League Cup early round games at home to lower league teams, there would often be a significant number of Rags in the away section, their constant singing about us when we were at our lowest & this match attending obsession defies belief. I also think there became a level of jealousy of City for a lot of them, their club had overcome its obsession with finally winning a title after 26 years, winning was getting dull & over in Manchester they saw a club badly run, playing shite football but still attracting huge crowds of passionate fans that realised that football wasn't just about winning, whilst their club had become a business even dropping the word football club from its badge I seem to recall.

Does it provide the club with any real sense of purpose? Look at it this way, you've got a different manager, different backroom staff and, of the 50 players registered that season with United there are 4 still currently on the books! FOUR! Rooney, Smalling, Carrick and Valencia.

Over the past 4 seasons City have finished in the top 2, so have either won the title, or been the closest challengers for the title. United have finished 2nd, 1st, 7th and 4th, with the worst 2 of those finishes, 7th and 4th, coming most recently. It shouldn't be forgotten that these recent poor finishes have come in the years subsequent to Ferguson leaving. It can't be underestimated the huge impact a departure such as that will have on anyone. He was at United since the mid 1980's, no-one associated with the club had had to deal with replacing the manager, his length of time at the club meant that the entire setup, from first team through to youth teams, coaching, facilities, everything, had been organised and shaped into what he wanted. To change all of that, after so much institutionalisation, was, and still is, a monumental task. Gill leaving at the same time simply compounded the situation. It's widely accepted that Ferguson's presence "papered over the cracks" at United. The title winning season of 2012-13 was almost entirely down to his skill as a manager. The squad he had wasn't the best in the Premier League, it was ageing and it lacked any real world class performers, yet they won the league with some room to spare. Ferguson leaves, Moyes comes in, and United fall apart. It's only been 2 years since Ferguson left yet United are unrecognisable from his time there. Football moves on stunningly quickly, looking back 5 years is probably looking too far back when considering what, if any, relevance it holds on the present day. Agree with a lot of this. Football at this level can change rapidly. We have won two of the last five titles and though in transition are well positioned to challenge this season. Next phase of rebuild will be the summer transfer season. After Van Gaal leaves we will have to see how the competition from yourselves, Chelsea and Arsenal pans out.
