Madrid won’t touch him with a barge pole. Keep taking the 300k a week of the scum for the next 10 years.

Anyway sky will bug him up all season and make him back into a world class goalie.

The problem with De Gea is he makes some great goal line reaction saves that get massively overrated both statistically and subjectively.

Oblak, Neuer and probably ter Stegen are vastly superior all round goalkeepers, he doesn't deserve to be mentioned alongside them.

Some are overrated, not all. His performance at Arsenal away last year was on par with that special night from Weaver when we played i think Ipswich at home!

It's a game of opinions and I wouldn't expect many blues especially on this forum accept and acknowledge his talent. A class save is a class save regardless if Martin Tyler is screaming it home. All round goalkeepers being mentioned now, as a shot stopper he is the best. Like I mentioned before though I'd rather Ederson for his other attributes along with being a handy shot stopper too.

No he's not the best shot stopper, he's maybe the best at reaction saves.

It's an important distinction because from mid- to long range shots De Gea makes plenty of errors. See Spain-Portugal for example.

Now would anyone in their right mind at a top club choose a keeper who's excellent inside 10 yards but has massive weaknesses elsewhere? No, which is why he's still at United when it was clear he wanted away for a long time.

Massive weaknesses? What crazy wording. You are also aware Real Madrid, one of the best teams in the world were seconds away from signing him? If it fell through for anything their end do you think it was because last second they went oh he isn't as good as we think actually? No chance.

Having a very quick look he made 3.58 saves per every goal whereas Ederson only had 2.17 saves per goal. As I said I would rather Ederson for us but it is beyond delusional to think he isn't a fantastic shot stopper. For every Ronaldo goal in this world club there are many examples of class saves from shots outside the area. That stat puts to bed that he is good because United are defensive too, he still faces a lot of shots because no matter how defensive they go their defence still isn't great.

He's generally a decent shot stopper and pulls off some spectacular saves (One against Southampton comes to mind) but as an all round keeper, he has relatively poor command of his area, doesnt particularly like coming off his line, either for crosses or to beat a striker to a through ball and his distribution is awful. This is all compared to the world's best keepers, in terms of the Premier League he still justifies playing for a top half side, but he's nowhere near as good as he's hyped up to be.

He's basically Shay Given with better marketing.

A bit harsh on Shay.

This is why people like you can't be taken seriously.

Saves per goal would dictate that Nick Pope and Lukasz Fabianski are the 2 best goalkeepers in the league. Do do you believe that? If not you've got no business trying to use it as a measure of ranking goalkeepers.

Also, no, that stat doesn't put anything "to bed" because anyone half sensible would be able to work out that against teams who park the bus, frustrated teams take a lot of very easy to save pot shots from range, inflating the saves per goal rating for the most defensive sides like United, Burnley, Brighton and Swansea which is why Pope, Matt Ryan and Fabianski score so highly using that metric.

No I used it as others above had said he looks good at United because they are defensive and play 6 at the back. That stat proves that isn't the case as he saves more shots before he lets one in.

I prefer to watch a game and make judgement then. You can't be taken seriously as you have claimed no top team wouldn't want him (not true) and said he has MASSIVE weaknesses. Also very far from the truth. Take the blue tinted bins off and be impartial. Life is a lot happier that way you know. I hate United, can't stand the bastards but I wont let that cloud my judgement as a football fan to the point where you sound like a deluded bitter idiot.

What is your way of ranking keepers just so I know? Amount of saves? Mistakes? distribution? Or are you fair unless it comes to them wearing a United shirt? Neur had a shit world cup too for what its worth.

No it doesn't. Read my comment.

Or do you think it's just a massive coincidence that keepers playing for teams with 10 behind the ball all have the best saves per goal stats? Judging by your comments so far it wouldn't surprise me to be fair.

If only we could see him in a different environment? One with world class defenders in front of him, but playing a more open, attacking system. A team like....Spain. I wonder what his shots per goal would be then? Spoiler alert it's 7 shots 6 goals.

said he has MASSIVE weaknesses

Yes, I'd classify a fear of coming for crosses costing United 10 league goals a season as a massive weakness. What would you call a weakness that costs you 10 goals, minor?
