United thread 2018/19

De Gea's stats at the World Cup show that he's actually a limited keeper (by world class standards) that thrives in the rags' defensive setup. People on Twitter were blaming Spain's defence and saying the Ronaldo goal was the only one he had a chance of saving. But it's denial like when people were defending Bravo. Yes, none of the shots might technically be his fault, but you expect world class keepers to pull off world class saves occasionally. They point out that two were penalties, but that just draws attention to his horrible record saving penalties. Some were players through on goal, but that just highlights how shit he is at coming off his line quickly and closing the player down. He's definitely partly a victim of the fact that Spain concede the sort of chances that we concede (i.e. fewer but better chances) but that just confirms what every City fan will say: there's no way we'd swap Ederson for De Gea.
I'd take Ederson over De Gea too but De Gea is a great keeper. His stats at the World Cup just show that he had a poor World Cup. Messi had a poor World Cup. Is he a poor player too?

David Seaman on talk sport said that the two best goalkeepers in the world were Neuer and de Gea. My beer came out through my nose.......

Funny the media going on and on and on about De Gae being world class and wanking over every Hollywood save brain washer majority of people!

They need something to hang their poxy little rag hats on. They’ve got fuck all else.

Desperate for relevance.

I’ve also heard he can empty a buffet without touching a plate.

He makes the harder saves to be fair, as non deluded blues have pointed out some shots straight at you are sometimes the hardest. I like the questioning of him as a goalkeeper though it is pretty funny. Not biased in the slightest. One of the best in the world but I would rather have Ederson for how we play.

His flaws that many have been pointing out for years are badly exposed for Spain. The 'save' he made actually hit him and his positioning was terrible for it.

He was also awful in the Euros.

He's pretty poor all round. Excels on his line.
Has very little idea on how to approach 1vs1 especially if the forward has time. De Gea never closes the angle but retreats to his line.
He's got poor distribution and doesn't offer himself for any defender under pressure.

He's the reason United play such a deep line. Behind a deep compact defence where he can stay in his comfort zone, he's excellent. His reflexes are his best attribute.
Spain with a much higher line, he looks gash.

Pretty much. Excellent shot stopper but a badly flawed keeper overall. Think Spain would be better off with Reina in nets tbh.

He is vastly overrated and has been shown up as a very average keeper in this last WC but, lucky or not, he still saves those Rag bastards 12 points or so a season.

He does, but having watched him at the last two tournaments just how many might he cost United? United can't push on, because of him. They can't press or chase the game or they'll risk exposure to his biggest weakness.
Footballing centre halves have looked clueless and they are just about the poorest in possession in the top 6.

De Gea could easily be considered the reason for these faults.
