You have to ask?

Only 12 games into a season, here's a novel idea, why not just use the league table?
Oh, that's not appropriate, as we're top of the pile.

I think, as you say yourself, there's the answer. It doesn't make united look good.

It's like Salah's record of being the premier league's record holder for being the scorer of the most left-footed goals scored on a Saturday by a guy with curly hair (or whatever the made-up bullshit was that ensured he was the bestest ever)
Or similar to when we gubbed the rags 6-3 but they 'won' the 2nd half....

City were the 7th closest league club to me (3rd closest top flight) at the time of my birth so no chance I’m agreeing to that. With the closest club being nearly 5 miles away, I never really classed any as local enough to have an affinity in that way.
The closest league club to me was 60 miles away; Plymouth Argyle, and I’d never heard of them, when I started supporting City. I was seven.

My affinity for the only team in Manchester was all because of one, Francis Henry Lee.

And thats what its all about..
You should always support your local club as a birthright... supporting or adopting a team from another town or city that can never really be your own is madness.
Well my local team growing up were Cork Hibernians, now years defunct. I followed them with a passion but also fell for City at the same time. Pretty much everyone in Ireland has, or at least had a League of Ireland club and a favoured English club - like Liverpool for example. I should know; I grew up with lots of 'em...;)

Over here in the US, the Premier League is now absolutely huge. Lots of folks here are pretty passionate about their "adopted" clubs too. Doesn't mean any less to them. And they can always follow their local clubs too at whatever sport they play.

It's always great to have local supporters as they are the lifeblood of any club, but don't think that folks from other places don't have any affinity for their chosen clubs. It's just not true.

Wouldn't normally post a link to the Mail or encourage people to read it, but this is quite an enjoyable read...
