US Politics Thread

Someone should drag up the old trump thread.

Seems were still saying the same things about him being unelectable etc.
I always said he "shouldn't" be electable, but there was always a danger that he would be.

If people still think there is absolutely no chance he'll be elected again after what transpired last time, then they haven't learned their lesson.

Id agree with that. But he is also a worse candidate now, even though he was bad last time.

And I keep saying events in the run up to any election have a massive impact on the result. He won last time with a late swing because of the Hilary Email investigation. They tried and tried with hunters laptop to do the same but it didn't stick. But something like that can stick and shift the polls significantly.

His chance assumes he's not in jail though and the way things are panning out Trump will win the nomination wile sat in a court room and then end up in jail before the election. The GOP is as likely to fully implode as it is to gain power with Trump. I don't discount him winning I just think the possible outcomes are varied and jail without winning the most likely. However, if he beats the odds in his various trials, wins some and builds on the persecution narrative (and isn't in jail by November 2024) then he could easily win.

I'm almost certain he won't be in jail before the election. He's had YEARS of experience dragging out legal fights.

You want to bet they won't try the same trick with Biden that they pulled on Clinton just before the election? All it need is some lapdog like Jim Jordan to make a baseless claim, and for some trump sympathiser at the FBI to give weight to Jordan's claims.

Not saying they could pull it off, but I don't think it will stop them trying.

Depends how much leeway the judge is prepared to give him, but I think he'll find a way.
He's already been given fixed dates in 1 trial. Lose that one and he will be behind bars. He can appeal the conviction, but unlike a civil case, if he appeals he does so from a jail cell rather than say, getting a stay on a civil award. Those appeals can take years.

Yep, and there are so many. The docs case looks a slam dunk even with a friendly judge and jury pool. It's an absolute slam dunk case.

Then the Georgia one is the biggest deal, he can play for time there but others have already asked for a speedy trial. If others go down then momentum builds against Trump.

Then you have all the other legal stuff and the monkey climbing up the back wall is often what gets you.

Navarro was convicted for his part last week (disobeying a congressional subpoena), and he still walks free, same as Bannon.

I'm not going to believe that Trump will be behind bars even if he is found guilty before the election until he's actually locked in a cell.

Which just shows how stupid Trump is not letting his legal PAC pay for their defence.
