US Politics Thread

With all due respect, I am honestly sk(c)eptical that this can possibly be real.

Anyhow, as I think the consensus is Vance won the debate, my view was that as long as Walz didn't cock it up, nothing much would change, and he didn't. But I'm surprised to see some of the post-debate feedback that is more blue-positive. It's almost as if some red/undecided folks are looking for reasons to walk from Trump/Vance.

Takes all sorts I guess, I thought Walz came across far better and was surprised to see a number of people thinking Vance performed better. What was good however was seeing two relatively normal politicians debate for a change rather than that senile old **** go over his greatest hits but Vance still lied his arse off even if he did it with more style than his running mate.

I’m Harris all the way, but Vance’s polished performance wiped the floor with Walz’s “in Minnesota, we…” every time he was looking for an out.

Don’t get me wrong. Vance’s answers were, for the most part, wholly unacceptable to me, but every time it was an issue that did not play to his platform, he turned it against Harris…which is a good debate tactic, especially if you can tie it into the question.

Vance is an absolute snake, who has shown who he really is elsewhere, but if you came in cold, knowing nothing about either candidate and looking for answers, Vance beat old man Walz to death!

Walz had to make sure he didn’t hurt Harris, which I think was probably fairly successful, but the bad part was Vance made crazy sound almost acceptable last night, with twinkling blue eyes, an easy smile, and constantly finding common ground and empathy with Walz. That’s not good for Harris.

No-one votes for the VP, but Vance did more good for Trump amongst that middle 10% who need coddling to decide their vote, than Walz did for Harris…and that’s a win!

Agree completely with you about it actually being a debate between two ‘normal’ people. Sounded like two politicians debating policies. Made the shit show Trump put in even more ridiculous by comparison.

I didn’t watch a lot but Vance seemed very assured. I fully expected it from him, he’s no idiot but is completely shameless.

I have to laugh; having lost all faith in party politics on this side of the water, I am sceptical about it in the US.
So we have a VP debate and everybody is asking who won. Well, not the voter, that’s for sure. The question is: What has the voter learned from the debate that he didn’t know before?
The answer of course is ‘Nothing.’
If two senior politicians fail in their debate in their duty to inform the voter, one has to ask what is the point?
While I’m at it, will somebody tell me what benefit I derive from the two parties in Britain arguing about who paid for the PM’s clothes. Meanwhile, what are they doing, for eg, about the ‘gang culture’ operating amongst senior clinicians within Sussex County Hospital? Our politicians seem to think spending more money is always the answer to the problems of the NHS and everything else.
Rant over.

'Relatively'?

That bar is so low these days.

Vance lied his arse off and then whined like fuck when he was 'unfairly' fact checked.

You are cloaking the US Presidential Election Debates in things it was never going to be. The person who states the most facts doesn’t win. Truisms don’t count!

It’s about energizing people by telling them what you think they want to hear! Americans, far and wide, ARE LIKE TRUMP…they want to hear they’re good, the others are bad, someone is out there trying to fix that, and you are being heard by us, because we ARE you, we SHARE your grievances! Let me tell you what’s wrong with the other guy and what he’s done to you…and you can lie through your teeth, because the vast majority of the electorate is too damned busy to know facts from lies, or the intricacies of the issue. They want black and white!

Foreigners bad. Americans good.
Inflation bad. Biden did it. He bad.
Biden is now Kamala. She bad, too!

Crime bad. Immigrants bad. Immigrants and crime bad at same time. Immigrants causing crime. Harris like immigrants. Harris bad.

Guns good. Bad guys use guns for bad. Good people use guns for good. Good guys need guns. Bad guys with guns need to be shot by good guys with guns. Immigrants who commit crimes like guns. Immigrants, crime and criminal immigrants with guns bad. Harris wants to take away good guy guns do only bad guy immigrants have guns. Harris bad.

Americans need a little path they can walk down to feel better about how they feel about issues and Trump & Vance give them the MOST SIMPLISTIC PATH POSSIBLE…no matter how false, full of lies or holes, it might be!

“Did we tell you what you want to hear?
Then, vote for us!”

Lies, half truths and nonsense?
You just can’t trust the MSM, because they’re not on our side and will say anything to stop us!

Simple, efficient, and mainly stupid…but stupid sells in America, as long as you don’t sell it as stupid, but sell it as “we are with you and believe what you believe!”

Hook, line and sinker!

Don’t confuse the average American voter with deep thought. None exists in their busy lives.

Work
Beer
Football
Trucks
Fucking
Guns
America, we’re number 1! Fuck yeah!

There you have it!

This is a literal summary of the entire GOP -- its platform, its people, its contempt for others, its intellectual dishonesty, its disregard for the national interest -- in a single exchange from last night.

Note that every roach who infests these threads who supports or excuses them argues like this -- all of them.

Which is why Homer and Bart are probably more popular than the much more moral and capable Marge and Lisa.
