No, it’s a “you had a gun you shouldn’t have had because you were a druggie.”
No no no. Mackenzie what else the pardon covered, not what created the basis for the pardon.
The “any future crime” pardon part is so charges cannot be tweaked and retried, etc…

He has not been charged with being an enemy of the state, nor would he…unless Trump was serious about the vindictive prosecution of his enemies list!
It's the fear that Trump might that is causing the blank immunity from January 1st 2014 but. Not the gun charge.

And, do you HONESTLY think Trump is NOT guilty of crimes, financial or otherwise???
If so, I have a Bridge in Brooklyn you might be interested in!!
No. What I've said, is that he is being prosecuted because he was running for office.

There very well be crimes he is guilty of... But a finessed business reporting misdemeanor and charges over inflating his property value on loan applications, strike me as rather political....

Our Judiciary is NOT owned. That's simply how Left leaning Americans (mostly those here) frame it.

The left and the right in America have a different World View, and when either comes to power and there is a judicial vacancy, whoever is in office picks a judge who's worldview are philosophically in line with theirs.

The pretense that the Judiciary is owned is just an often repeated lie. They simply don't agree with that worldview.
Hmmm! I see where you’re going but find that difficult working in our own judicial system.
The law is the law. Political appointments to match political views doesn’t sit tight with me.
I'm not sure that's what I said. Rather I think I said the us vs them mentality of politics vis everywhere in the West.

So is more like City vs United. City fans don't quote supporting City if Cory gets a soft penalty given to them. Yet we'd go ape-shit cursing out the same outcome of it happened against City and for day United.

That bunkering mentality makes politics intuitively dishonest. But with our sports teams the stakes for fanatical support are low..Not the same for politics.
I won’t go back and check on my recollection, I’ll accept your explanation here, but my reference to irony was particularly a memory of that horrid word- whataboutery. Basically saying you have it there too when we weren’t talking about here.
No matter. .
Do I want a less corrupt government? Come on man, who doesn't?
We all do, but the question is as much about changing a system/legislature/constitution perhaps, that greenhouses it’s growth.

Thanks for the replies by the way. I knew you would.

Yes. He was going to cop a plea for these crimes but his lawyers.wanted blanket immunity from anything else that might pop up-ANYTHING!! Now I don’t know why the prosecutors would ok no jail time. That’s one thing but asking for blanket immunity for ANY future prosecution?? That was a bridge too far and the plea was withdrawn.

He went to trial. He lost and here we are.

That’s the definition of chutzpah…
Correction, the plea wasn't withdrawn. The Judge had to blow the whistle on the sweet deal the DOJ was trying to sneakily grant Hunter by using purposely vague language.

The Judge caught on and was like, Nah, I can't sign off on this blank immunity shit!!!

Then the DOJ quickly withdrew pretending they didn't know the deal was an immunity stitch up. :)

None of it matters in the wash.

He was NEVER going to be indicted as some kind of secret spiller, nor did his Father gain anything or give favor as VP. It was all conspiratorial BS and now he’s free of it.

“There very well may be…” HAHA!

Who is being partisan now?

Do you know who Al Capone was? What was he famous for? I’m sure you’ll agree it wasn’t tax evasion, but that’s what they were able to nail him on! Capiche?!

You have a beautiful way of IMPLYING guilt, fault, and various other forms of inappropriate innuendo as FACT, through your use of language.

The (not-so) subtle use of the art of linguistic inference is something I admire. However, in this instance, I have to object.

Bravo for the effort, though.

The law is the law. But Judges have to apply the general laws to specific cases that often don't fit perfectly with the law as written or with common sense.

So Judges ( at least Supreme Court Judges) have the duty of interpreting new rules and laws and whether they violate the Constitution or some existing Federal law.

This job of interpretation isn't as ironclad as we'd like to think. Different judges apply different philosophical lenses to understanding how a law should be interpreted.

TP not add my bias, I'd leave it at that. :)

I think you might be right, but I wouldn't call that whataboutery... As I was simply pointing out that this wasn't unique.

I get your drift and I don't disagree that there is some built in shit in the system that needs change. I simply don't know if it have the answer on how to.

Thanks for the replies by the way. I knew you would.
Lol

The bolded is probably a lie. So I'll probably have to pardon you in future.

Still like you though :)

Joe Biden, September 1st 2022

"Whether democracy is still America's sacred cause is the most urgent question of our time," the president said during his remarks. "That's what the 2024 election is all about."

"Today I make this sacred pledge to you: The defense, protection and preservation of American democracy would remain, as it has been, the central cause of my presidency," Biden said.

"Trump's assault on democracy isn't just part of his past. It's what he's promising for the future," Biden said later. "He's being straightforward. He's not hiding the ball."

Pretty much what the photo I posted is about. Sometimes you have to hold your hands up and say youve been duped.

Watching Republicans crow about Biden pardoning his son is the most hilarious example of hypocrisy I’ve seen for awhile!

It was inevitable, especially given not only Trump’s pledge to go after his political enemies, but then trying to put in place the very people who have vowed to do it for him.

As for Republican claims of “lying to the American people,” you have got to be pulling my leg!

From Perplexity:

During his presidency, Donald Trump made 30,573 false or misleading claims, averaging about 21 per day according to The Washington Post‘s fact-checkers.

This unprecedented level of dishonesty has been characterized as a systematic campaign of misinformation, with historians noting that no other president has lied to such an extent or about such a wide range of issues.

Trump’s fabrications included significant policy matters and trivial personal anecdotes, contributing to a culture of distrust in political discourse.

END OF DISCUSSION.

No? You want more?

During his presidency, Donald Trump granted pardons to 144 individuals and commuted the sentences of 70 others. Notable pardons included:
Paul Manafort: Former campaign chairman convicted of financial crimes.
Roger Stone: Longtime ally convicted of lying to Congress.
Steve Bannon: Former chief strategist charged with fraud.
• ***Charles Kushner: Father of Jared Kushner, convicted of tax evasion and witness tampering. (Al Capone, anyone?!)

Trump’s clemency actions often favored close associates and those with political connections, reflecting a pattern of using pardons for personal or political reasons.

*** Charles Kushner, the father of his son-in-law Jared (Ivanka’s husband), was convicted in 2005 on 18 federal charges, including tax evasion, witness tampering, and making false statements to the Federal Election Commission (FEC).

He admitted to assisting in filing false tax returns that overstated charitable contributions, resulting in significant losses to the IRS. (Pled guilty for reduced sentence and got a billionaire wrist slap)

Kushner’s scheme to intimidate his brother-in-law involved hiring a prostitute to lure him into a motel room. After the encounter, which was secretly recorded with hidden cameras, the footage was sent to his sister, the brother-in-law’s wife. This act was intended as retaliation after Kushner learned that his brother-in-law was cooperating with federal investigators against him.

This scheme contributed to Kushner’s conviction on charges of witness tampering, among other offenses, leading to a two-year prison sentence and a fine of $40,000.

Charles Kushner has just been named as Trump’s pick for U.S. Ambassador to France.

Cry me a fucking river over Biden protecting his son from Trump and his vindictive cronies!!!
