I agree that there doesn't seem any specific cause to go after Venezuela.

Venezuela has the worlds biggest oil reserves. More than Saudi Arabia, more than Iran. He/they know that controlling Venezuela and its oil gives them massive power and influence over the rest of the globe.

Vlad won't be happy if he does. Russia and China setting up trading blocks with south American countries who are happy to join up as they see it as protection from the US influence

Federal judge has destroyed Maga Mike in the case of seating the democrat election winner. Judge has ordered Speaker to seat her forthwith, calling his actions unconstitutional in robust language. He has nil authority left.

But this was nearly a week ago, right?

The existence of law doesn't make any difference if it isn't enforced. The Trump admin simply ignores the law.

Has she been sworn in yet?

I don’t think so. He runs risk of contempt if there is any unconscionable delay.

Not really. Trump can pardon him. And anyway the supreme court are largely captured.

Had she been sworn in yet?
Asked and answered as a lawyer would say. No, I don’t think so.
Incidently, if the contempt is civil, not criminal, no pardon is possible. In any case such a finding would make the speaker emasculated in the house.

Its important to note all those now floating the idea of a 3rd term need him in post because of what they have done or what they were doing. Frankly they will just use his stuffed animated corpse to stay rich and out of jail.

How do you think the likes of Raskin would introduce everything they said to him?
Why would anything Raskin says matter?

Anyway, we've established that (1) A judge has ordered Speaker to seat her forthwith (2) The speaker has not complied and (3) There has been no consquence.

In line with the vast majority of all the other illegal things the admin has done, and will IMO continue to accelerate.

Btw, we ended up going to New York (back a couple of weeks ago).
Huge thanks for all the tips and advice btw.

It was probably everything I thought it would be. Batshit and beautiful and a constant hum of energy. Jet lag and post comedown has been a bit of a struggle and given the temp was in the 80's whilst there, we cam back to full on Autumn.
Even my son who struggles with anxiety found his feet and flooded his brain with memories.

I didn't take an e sim with me (neglected to organise one) so wasn't glued to my phone as much (which was actually a blessing) so I wasn't really paying attention to the US news (ironically).
NYC seemed to just get on with itself and seemed really odd that one repugnant, corpulent loathsome bully could effect a city so enormous and full of life.
It's no surprise the city fights back against the likes of ICE and the support for Zohran Mamdani is so high.

Hoboken just across the Hudson river (where we were staying) was a fantastic spot to spend a coulpe of weeks. Felt like a small town in the shadow of the giant and quite a nice respite from the city's energy.

A few days in and the street we were staying on held a huge street party. Really diverse group of individuals and families (I bet there was a good hundred or so people) gently partying all day long and into the night.

And almost every interaction with locals in NYC and New Jersey I had was hugely positive. Co-incided with my return to running so was able to run off the beaten tracks. Ran around Jersey Heights, Jersey City (Sopranos stomping grounds) and back into Hoboken.
I'd stop locals and ask directions even though I wasn't lost. Props to the guy who (when I told him I was from Manchester) asked me whether Piccadilly Circus was still there (he visited in 1971).
And to the young NYC guy who carried my daughter's suitcase up a few flights of stairs on the subway, and the massively helpful public transport workers who were just naturally helpful and friendly.

Managed to get a Park Run in too. Running across Brooklyn Bridge at 7:30am to get to the starting point in DUMBO was another locked down memory.

Won't bore with the itinerary but it was an incredible trip that I (and my kids) would love to do again given how much we still didn't see.

In your interactions with the locals, did they express their feelings about Trump?
I'll be honest, I had no intention of talking politics. Was surprised I got through customs/security tbh.
Ironically it was the most efficient and quickest I've ever experienced. I guess being with my kids helped and I had a bit of a chuckle with the customs guy.

There was an mayoral election event in Washington square and from what I could gather the organisers weren't Mamdani's pals. I picked up a lot of 'this is the best, most expensive city in the world therefore shouldn't be accessible to all (that kind of vibe).

And I met this couple from Texas in Hoboken who were visiting New York. They'd rocked up in this giant motorhome and I was helping them with the Ferry process to get over to NYC. He was a giant of a guy and felt like the personification of 'Texas' but both really friendly.
His wife mentioned she'd worked in Europe and had visited Auschwitz which was really sombering.
But then she mentioned they were going to visit Trump Tower and I felt a little disappointed.

I'm glad you enjoyed it, mate, and not surprised in the least that you did; it's an incredible city. I've been twice now, once for leisure and once with work, but I'm desperate to go back with my missus and let her experience it for the first time.

Me and my daughter fly back from NY this evening, we’ve had a brilliant week. Great weather, lovely people, went to Amity Hall to watch the Villa game and met up with some great ‘Murican Blues. Saw one homeless guy with a cardboard sign saying “Fuck Trump”. The subway is easy to use, though still can’t get my head round it being $3:25 whether you’re going one stop or twenty. Will definitely be back.

Yeah, I suspect we'll all likely to go back. Few spots I missed out but I did hammer as much as was feasible (bearing in mind here were three of us).

On one day I totalled 42,000 steps. Was a mix of the morning run, a big walk the rest of the day then a bit of a stomp around the less busy (hip) parts of Brooklyn on my own.
It's a city built for walking but the subway (and Path and bus network) was like clockwork (at least whilst we were using it).
Got to see a few 'TV spots' (Seinfeld Cafe and Friends appt block....Ghostbusters) on my traverses too.
Soho felt v similar to the Northern Quarter in Manchester actually.

Ah ace - glad you enjoyed and totally understand you wanting to go back!

Yes we’ve also done a lot of walking, though not 42,000 steps! I only took a cabin bag so couldn’t fit my running shoes in, as would loved to have done Brooklyn Park Run, will have to settle for Marple Brabyns Park Run on Saturday.
