I think MP decided that Dzeko and Negredo were playing for 1 place last season. Beast was leading the way in first half of season and then Edin came through in second half. Now Dzeko has signed new deal then MP/Txiki have decided that Negredo can go and getting circa £25mil for him at his age is good business.

We won't bring anyone else in now, we take the risk going with 3 and if it backfires we will look fucking stupid.

I still think Kelechi can make an impact from October. Was superb in pre season and looks good enough to play in the first team.

United looked good in pre season.

Good point !

That may be but would you gamble our season on it ? Keep Alfie or pay Bony's release clause. 3 strikers, 2 of which are terribly injury prone is suicidal for a club with our ambitions. We might end up getting away with it but its a huge risk for me.

It's really not gambling our season on it. People are making way too much of this potential sale IMO. We have played the last 3 season effectively with 3 centre forwards. Last season Jovetic was unavailable all season and Negredo invisible from Jan onwards. The season before Balo was sold in January and barely kicked a ball before that. The season before that Tevez was awol for the meat of the season.

This is simply good business on City's part. Obviously we need better luck with injuries to Kun and Jovetic this season, however I'd MUCH rather we were relying on Jovetic than on Negredo simply because I think Jojo's the better player.

Also City were interested in Falcao. That means that Negredo leaving eventually will lead to an incoming. I'd rather we kept our powder dry and banked the Negredo money than kept him and had Valencia sign someone else. In a year we'd want rid of Negredo anyway and wouldn't have gotten half the money we're gonna get now.

And one more thing. Today isn't over yet. I'm not saying we will sign anyone because I have no idea. However I wouldn't totally rule it out because of what a few journalists are saying. Don't imagine any of them have got a hotline to Txiki.

Interesting comment, cheers for the info mate. I don't know how they looked as I don't watch them unless they play us. And I certainly didn't watch them in pre season. Anyway I think i'm fairly good judge of a player and what I saw of Kelechi he is certainly ready to fight for his place in our first team.

Lets not sugar coat it, if we sell Negredo and don't replace him we are weaker, which in turn leaves question marks against the vision of our man from Barcelona.
We are Champions and League Cup holders.

UEFA sanctions, players circumstances and player availability are problems that aren't easy to resolve

I think there's a difference between only needing 3 players effectively when you have 4 options, and only needing 3 players effectively when you've only got 3 to start with. Yes, in the past few seasons, due to injury, suspension, golf playing in South America etc we've only really had 3 options available at any given time, but that's because 1 of our options have been unavailable. If one of our options becomes unavailable once Negredo (potentially) has left, then we've got 2 options, with non-one on the bench to make a change with.

If the nearly £24m fee is to be believed then that's a very tempting price, given it's getting on for a 50% mark-up on what we paid for him, but that doesn't change the fact there's more risk entering the season with 3 strikers than there is with 4.

I'd hope that we'd be looking at a replacement, if not now then certainly for January. Going with 3, and no viable youth player to step up, is unnecessarily risky.

Probably the most factually correct, sensible and well balanced post I have seen on these boards in the last 24 hours.

For me, I would like a 4th striker. However, this money will break us even this summer and opens the door in January. It's a no brainer in that respect, although as it stands, I don't think the club will allow Alvaro to leave until January.

I think the issue here is he is homesick. It's as simple as that. City will protect the business first, but if it's right it will happen.

You are slightly missing the point, yes we played the last few years with only 3 main strikers but we have had 4 in the squad, and one missing through unforseen circumstances. Dzeko is badly inconsistent, Jovetic and Aguero are unreliable fitness wise and Jovetic is more of an attacking midfielder who can play upfront if needed anyway imo. Obviously we could be fine, but I think its risky given what we know about our strikers. If we end up needing to play Dzeko alone up top for a period of time and he starts playing completely shite then we're really struggling for goals, especially if this period coincides with the ACON. Which Iheanacho will be at if he's playing first team football for City, aswell as Yaya who could play there as a last resort.

There's no reason to not play with one up top if we have injuries to two strikers. We have good enough attacking midfield options to cover that. Also as I said, I think Kelechi is good enough to make the step up when he turns 18 in October. This sale just doesn't worry me.

Completely agree with this. I expect him to play a bit part in the second half of the season, and next season will be a serious contender to start a lot of games. Just hope we don't loan him out, the best way to aid his development is for him to play games for us.
