VAR - 2020/21

I’ll happily see it scrapped now to be honest, the constant moaning and ‘it’s killing the game’ is tedious- just deep down I’d prefer some sort of system in place for a Ref to have a chance to see if he’s implemented the right decision and not been forced into making a split second choice.

what would you prefer -

A) Salah does a ridiculous dive with no contact - the refs angle and speed. It looks a penalty. He gives the penalty.

or

B) Salah does a ridiculous dive with no contact - the refs angle and speed. It looks a penalty. He gives the penalty. Had a quick look on monitor, realises he made the wrong choice and reverses the decision.

...
Well, we had neither of those options yesterday.

Yesterday was;

C) Salah does a ridiculous dive with no contact - the refs angle and speed. It looks a penalty. He gives the penalty. VAR didn't even bother their arses to look at it, ref not instructed to look at the monitor, Salah gets away with a ridiculous dive, scores the resulting penalty and the media (complicit in the corruption) totally ignore the dive like it never happened.

Are you not more Angry at Man City and Pep Guardiola for voting in favour for VAR to the PL ? Is Pep a c*nt for wanting it ?

what have I actually done wrong. I don’t work for FIFA or the FA and have never had a say whether or not it can be introduced, I’m just someone on a forum that try’s to have a balanced debate about VAR without resorting to pathetic abuse.

to answer your point. On diving. I think clear dives with zero contact has dramatically decreased, loads in fact. There has been a few given this season and that Martial one is farcical, I’m not going to defend that at all. That’s not on me neither all the future controversy that will always happen. I would love a system in place that can eradicate diving all together - I don’t think it’s possible as so much of it is based on perception and it’s why you have so many pundits and fans argue whether it is or not.

if there was no VAR and a ref gives a penalty for a blatant dive , should I get angry and abusive at you and say ‘if we had VAR a ref wouldn’t have given the penalty’ . It works both ways.

No system is ever going to be perfect. So you can live in a world of anger and moan and moan at every decision or you can try and embrace change and give a balanced perspective of what can improve.

An improvement for me would be to put Mason + Dean on trial to answer for there ridiculous decisions of late ! Even aided by the help of clear replays they come to those conclusions.

I totally understand the frustration and concerns of VAR, I’m not a massive fan or advocate and it does take something out the game. Why I have to repeat this over and over I’m not sure.

but I don’t want it scraped. I don’t want refs making blind decisions and getting far more ludicrous decisions incorrect. Sorry I have that view and that makes me a c*nt.

VAR is being used all over the world now, it seems to be progressing in other countries and has it reduced attendances and the love of the game ? For you it has which is a shame. For many others it hasn’t at all.

but I agree with the vast majority outside of this forum that law changes to the game and better officiating can make VAR really improve the game. Ultimately that’s what most want.

Angry is the right word for me.
I am a serious person in a serious high powered job with plenty of tragedy in my life.

I have been on this planet just short of 60 years. The only consistent thing in my life has been my love of football and particularly City. It is also my one area of life I can be stupid and let go. That is what football is. Emotion. Not maths. Not A computer game.

I was there May 13th 2012. All the years of hurt, injustices, battered hopes rolled up into that one match. That one instance. The release, the joy, the shared exaltation was immense. I wept, cried like a baby, fell to my knees. Along with 47000 others. That is football. That is what it is for. I should have felt some of that feeling yesterday each time we scored. But no. I waited for VAR to check.
So I will say to all of you on here, and any City fan, take away the magic of 93:20 by 'checking the goal on VAR and you are not a football fan.
It has not removed diving and Offsides are still dubious due to which frame is picked. And yes it is part of and re-enforced corrupt and inconsistent officiating. But,bi just want my goal celebrations back. I need that adrenalin in my life. Without it all I can do is turn on those who have ripped the heart of the game and as an enabler, you are guilty as charged.

Can I have some of your meds please.
You give 2 choices but neither happened. The third choice is Salah dives the gives it but reviews it on the monitor and then books the cheat for diving. There is no point in having VAR if they agree with the ref in virtually every instance.
Why was the offside goal ruled out? Instead of the usual 2 minutes of lines and movement I get to see, I had one replay.
It is corrupt

In reality the dive with zero contact will not result in a penalty 99% of time thanks to VAR. before VAR refs were giving penalty’s for blatant dives all the time.

now I know the art is changing, players are so clever and make sure they make contact before going down so on replays it looks worse. This is something VAR has to take into account and improve.

or we just scrap it and go back to letting players dive and win pens and have loads more Martial type penalty’s given than we do now.

Ok. one devils advocate question without you getting personal. As it’s a open forum to debate.

the 93:20 Aguero goal( Which was the best by the way)

what if the Lino flagged for offside ?
all the joy and exhilaration taken away because the lino thought Aguero was off when he was blatantly onside.

What then ? Shrug your shoulders and say that’s the name of the game. Oh well’

players are very cunning agreed, but I just can't see how that was a penalty on Salah yesterday. Seasoned professional officials with as many angles and replay speeds somehow saw that a penalty. Until Salah is booked etc then they will carry on.

Refs don’t have excuses anymore if they can see the replay and still get it wrong.
Before they could hide behind the fact that’s what they saw in a split second from there angle etc.

Mike Dean is getting more abuse and calls to be demoted than ever before. He has fucked up with the benefit of replays.

it’s VAR exposing poor refereeing. Rather than us just accepting it.

With all the camera angles of that dive yesterday and VAR still didn't overturn the referee, then the game is gone. No way that fleeting contact from Dias was anywhere near enough to knock Salah even slightly off balance, let alone starfish in mid-air and fall on his face. Anyone who's ever played a contact sport at any level knows this. It's laughable.

That's an open invitation for players like Salah to just throw themselves on the floor at the slightest contact, safe in the knowledge that VAR are just going to back up the referee. What is the f*cking point of having it?

1. Not really, I give pro’s and cons. Seems you will only listen to the cons and anyone trying to give a bit of balance is a c*nt.

2. Irrelevant to a debate about VAR

3. Hammers season ticket holder for over 25 years. Clearly not a football fan.

Ref point 3... football fan - yes, certifiable - clearly ;)

agree. what is the solution ? do we scrap VAR so them same penalty's can continue to be given ? or do we live in hope that we get better refs who can see a replay of players diving like that and actually book them and not give a pen.
