VAR - 2020/21

It does, doesn't it?

The single, brief replay of the Stones offside didn't prove anything. It could have conceivably been offside, but we didn't see any lines or a clear view of the moment the ball was passed in conjunction with the lines on the screen to show the position of the last defender.

Now you would think that if they wanted to convince viewers that there was nothing shady going on, then it would be in their interest to show us ALL the evidence for EVERY marginal decision, but they don't, and that's telling.
He did look offside, but where was the VAR proof for the paying public to see?

I’ll happily see it scrapped now to be honest, the constant moaning and ‘it’s killing the game’ is tedious- just deep down I’d prefer some sort of system in place for a Ref to have a chance to see if he’s implemented the right decision and not been forced into making a split second choice.

what would you prefer -

A) Salah does a ridiculous dive with no contact - the refs angle and speed. It looks a penalty. He gives the penalty.

or

B) Salah does a ridiculous dive with no contact - the refs angle and speed. It looks a penalty. He gives the penalty. Had a quick look on monitor, realises he made the wrong choice and reverses the decision.

...
It’s is killing the game if over half the fans feel it is deployed very badly and 2/3rds think it lessens their enjoyment! Demonstrably so using the very source you return to frequently in this thread?

VAR could be fixed easily. Mike up refs and the VAR room and get rid of the stupidity of offside decisions which rely on tech that doesn’t work

Ok. one devils advocate question without you getting personal. As it’s a open forum to debate.

the 93:20 Aguero goal( Which was the best by the way)

what if the Lino flagged for offside ?
all the joy and exhilaration taken away because the lino thought Aguero was off when he was blatantly onside.

What then ? Shrug your shoulders and say that’s the name of the game. Oh well’
That’s a silly hypothetical, with respect

fair enough, but it happens and always will without VAR, refs and linos will incorrectly rule out perfectly good goals.

I watch that i think... well it could take a ref 30 seconds to go to a monitor and rule that out and book Henry.

I don't see why its so extreme to want that option.

however when a ref still watches a replay and doesn't get it right, then its anger all round and justifiably so.

I see the Soucek red card from the weekend has now been overturned. So once again, what is the point in VAR?
I think Mike Dean had a proper brain fart there. Correct decision to overturn. I have spoken to a couple of lower league Lino"s in the past 12 months, they both told me they are scrutinised to the hilt, every mistake, regardless how pedantic it is, is analysed and counts against their performance. As an example, a player in his own half takes a free kick with a rolling ball, it had no effect on play but if the Lino sees it and doesn't flag its a "mistake" chalked to him by the match referee assessor. Decent money for what they do though.

Dean's family has got death threats and he's asked for the next week of matches off.
