VAR - 2020/21

Its been said already a few times.
"Clear and obvious" is being used by var teams as a get out,as its obviously not obvious what constitutes "clear and obvious"
;)
Yeah, it's such a stupid setup. This whole clear and obvious thing is what's created all the diving going on for the last two seasons, players know that they'll generally be rewarded for throwing themselves over at the slightest 'contact' as VAR will only be able to say that there was a slight contact so it's not clear and obvious.
This is one of the biggest issues for me, VAR has encouraged diving and cheating that and the ridiculousness of the offside farce. I think it could work well to cut out a lot of the issues we have with cheating and genuine mistakes but PGMOL seem to just be concentrating on showing how amazing it is at spottimg mm offsides and not on changing the psychology of the referees in regards to making sure a decision is right. They seem to use binary decisions rather than common sense, like does that toe nail offside give an attacker an unfair advantage or does the ball slightly brushing a players arm make a difference to where it ends up.

There's 2 in the 'VAR studio', so have a quick vote - on field ref says no but the two in studio think it was, then it's 2 to 1 in favour of a penalty so give it, get rid of this clear and obvious nonsense.

I was a strong advocate for bringing VAR in. But since we have had it its clear that those using are not up to the job, and I think we can all agree they have had long enough to get it right. So it should now be consigned to the dustbin. All I would say is the Ref should be made to use the pitchside monitors for red cards and penalty decisions.

But those in Stockley park are a waste of time and VAR ruins the matchgoing experience.
I think that were VAR to be ditched we wouldn't even get a second look at the Foden Stonewall Pen. Moss and his ilk would just waft it away like he did last night. At least a referral to VAR might, just might get a decision in our favour. Go on, then, I'm kidding everyone. A hairline decision in our favour? More chance of Mossy taking off and flying round Beswick.

Ok I admit as an 60 yr old grumpy git I thought I understood football.
I didnt think they was enough of a foul for the Southampton penalty. Yet every pundit and commentator said it was.
There wasn't enough for a grown man to fall over.
Yet on Citys I thought it was a clear cut penalty. So did most pundits.
I dont understand what refs see that I dont.

The thing I dont understand is how everyone can agree the soft penalty. But not everyone can agree on a 100% late lunge on the players standing foot.

I hear people saying scrap VAR but without VAR the Southampton penalty is still given and Citys penalty isnt given. It does help stop the game being bent !
I’m an 60 year old grumpy guy as well. And I’d rather moan about errors from the referee that can be labelled as being humanly mistakes, rather than the wrong decisions taken by VAR who can sit back and watch the incident from every angle over and over again.

Just get rid of VAR.

Fair point Dave, But I'm just sick to death of these type of VAR decisions always going against us. And when were allowed to go to games its was much worse, as you couldn't see the replays.

Like I said, you have a lot to say on a rivals football forum about incorrect VAR decisions affecting my team..

Oh and there's no fkin chance you'll hear from the VAR official who saw that and deemed it not a penalty so you can 'like to hear from him all you want', it's not happening..!..

And that is a BIG part of why VAR is corrupt..

Btw, I'm not aggressive, it's called passion, it's called wanting my team to get treated fairly where VAR is concerned, it's called fed up to the back teeth with getting shafted by VAR..

I don't need a West Ham fan coming on here telling me everything will be all right in the end..

We've been royally fucked over again tonight, a fucking shocking decision that will no doubt be swept under the carpet..!

When you have seasoned professionals like Souness calling it out for the shit show it is then you know it's bent..

Anyway, you keep banging on about its virtues, it'll keep you relevant once you've exhausted your 'best of a 100 threads'

I'll help you out there, here's your next one..

100 dodgy as fcuk VAR decisions that have been awarded against Man City'..!

You can have that one for free..!
Excellent post

Yet VAR was marketed to us as "replays will be shown on the big screens in the stadium " for transparency...which has never happened...and why havent the 2 supposedly biggest clubs in the world still not been made to install a big screen in their stadium ? wasnt it a requirement of var ?

i didn't know that they said that would happen?

my many arguments against VAR seem to get lost in my reasoning to wanting to keep it and debate about ways in which it can improve.

I do highlight the good it can and has done, many goals and decisions have been turned around correctly thanks to it. Other decisions like tonight are unexplainable and it’s the officials that deserve the criticism, not var. var has only highlighted how bad they actually are.

Going forward they have to take a good look at improving this and more importantly the transparency in decisions - I don’t blame anyone for being against it because when it gets it wrong. It’s a complete shambles.

Despite all this and what I consider a reasonable view, it’s clear by the constant digs that my opinion on all this is not welcome so I will take a step back from this topic.
The tools to improve it are there and always were. This isn't a case of the technology failing or needing better videos. VAR is being used to the benefit of some teams and to disadvantage of others. Why is there a 15 minute review to give certain teams favorable calls while we can't get a replay of a stonewall penalty? VAR has made thigs worse. It's easier to accept an error in the moment. It's unforgivable to have all the tools to be able to make the right call & still bottle it.
