Oh didnt know that ! So it's when the foot hits the ball, I always thought it was the moment the ball was played ( left the foot )

A player in an offside position at the moment the ball is played or touched - The first point of contact of the 'play' or 'touch' of the ball should be used

You may have been confused by the the justification of tight offside calls against players that show the wrong frame, showing a player offside when the ball has already been played. I notice this especially when it happens to a City player. It may also happen when other teams are playing.

After 54 years watching my beloved City enough is enough, all enjoyment has gone, we can't celebrate anymore as we know that a good percentage of goals will be ruled out (for us not others). The game is bent, we will never win the Chumps league, our punishment for the court victory and now they have the tool to stop us. The club aren't helping as they seem to accept everything dished in our direction, I watched a game a few days ago on big match revisited, The Arse v the dippers, total enjoyment on a muddy pitch with crunching but fair tackles and no one rolling around. Very sad day and all my friends of a certain age agree with me.

Every football fan I know despises VAR and the ones who only have a passing interest hate it also. Its added nothing to the game and taken away everything.

I remember last season, Raheem was given offside in our first game (I think) and Andy Grey ripped the decision apart by showing the decision frame by frame – showing how VAR could be used to give an offside just by selecting which frame they chose.

It's not a second referee as much as a tool to manipulate the game and the result. Certain teams put the ball in the net and there is no VAR check even though there is a possibility of an infringement either at the point of gaol scoring or in the build up. Other teams have almost every goal microscopically checked for any possibility to strike off the goal. I did not beleive the conspiricy therorists at first but as the season goes on I am starting the believe them more and more. The game has gone :-(

Yep - I keep saying it, but VAR allows them to almost script games now – we've had goals disallowed after they've gone right back 30+ seconds to highlight an 'infringement' yet other teams don't have this level of scrutiny put upon them!

A bit harsh that.
Didnt the rags get awarded a penalty after everyone else has fucked off home ?

And, if the view of the contact with the ball is obscured, they guess.

Also, because there is no transparency in the process they can choose whichever frame they want to give the desired outcome.

The nail has been hit squarely on the head here mate.

Game of VERY fine margins at the very top levels, a fact which is being exploited by those with power and ulterior motives and, I'm absolutely certain that corruption is rife. You can see it and you can smell it.

So many examples of what you said and yet some refuse to see it. Frame manipulation is 100% in use, both for and against; and then you add the selective replays that we are shown into the mix.

Football before VAR was corrupt, with VAR it's a fucking pantomime.

When you can’t celebrate a goal it’s the end

The rampant dishonesty in the game is the reason why myself and many others are becoming more and more disillusioned with it all. Those in charge of our favourite sport have proven themselves to be not fit for purpose time and time again, and yet nothing has changed.
There has been no attempt by anybody to set up an independent enquiry group in order to investigate the blatant corruption within the game - and nobody is going to convince me that corruption doesn’t exist.
One of the most unscrupulous and deceitful charlatans in the history of the sport, Sepp Blatter, will be free to pick up where he left off next year after his ban comes to an end. And what are the odds on him being ‘voted’ into a position of high authority within the game again?

The whole set-up stinks to high heaven as far as I’m concerned. The governing bodies should all be under investigation and criminal charges laid against those who either partake or allow these odious bastards to continue with the treachery and fraudulent way they run the game.

Football is corrupt. Absolutely no doubt in my mind.

The governing bodies are fully complicit in the coverup, and are so afraid that they'll lose their cash cow if it ever came to light, that they will do anything to cover it up.

Yep. It’s us fans that pay the money that keeps some of these people in their jobs, at the very least they should be accountable to us for the way they run things. Referees never have to justify a single decision to anybody: if he decides to disallow a goal he doesn’t have to explain to us why. It could be a goal that promotes or relegates a team, millions and millions of pounds involved, but he can basically do whatever the fuck he likes with no recriminations.

It’s disturbing, really.

Why doesnt the ref explain his decision ? He has made them in good faith, what's the problem ?. Other sport you hear what/reason why the ref/umpire has made the decision. Football isnt even trying to hide its bent !
They think that trawling out c*nt's like Peter Walton on BT helps to clear up any confusion, when 9 times out of 10 he agrees with the match officials and is likely to be complicit in the cover up.

I wonder why the PiGMOL make officials sign a non-disclosure agreement?

This is where things start to get silly and VAR becomes incompatible with the offside rules. In real life, without a camera, nobody can determine any difference between the time the foot first touched the ball and the time the ball left the foot. To both observers and players they both occur at the same time, at the same moment. In practical terms they occur at the same moment.

And when viewing the players position in real life without a camera the attacker and defender will look level, but really they can never be level, there must be a fractional gap. In practical terms though they are level.

Then offside works. The moment the ball is played and the defenders position are judged by eye.

But Introduce a camera and start trying to measure micro distances and fractions of seconds and draw thick lines in pictures and it becomes farcical. The same event could be proven offside or not offside depending on picture selection and coloured line thickness and position.

Good post & very true , it’s now clearly more open to manipulation

When asked about the Fred head-butt (before the yellow card), Walton was 100% definite it was a red card offence. When the match ref' produced a yellow and everybody was condemning the decision, Walton said "He (the ref') isn't wrong, just of a different opinion". In effect "I can never be wrong".
