Var debate 2019/20

"Where is your evidence that I am starting from the proposition that I think he is biased or bent ? I am questioning his ability not his integrity. I believe he should have given the penalty sooner."

Er you posted that his action " smelled fishy"

Reread my post. I did not say “ his action “ , I was generalising about the difficulty in proving facts.

Looking at the incident I don’t know why he didn’t give the decision immediately and neither do you. IMO I felt he struggled to keep up with the game at times because of the speed at which we break.

At the end of the day we are two City fans who have a different opinion on an incident. I just don’t understand why BM posters ( generally !! ) have to make personal ( and often childish) attacks on fellow City fans who have a different opinion.

The Mangala thread is unbelievable in attacking a player who tried to do his best in a team where most of his teammates were world class but he wasn’t.

Can we just agree to differ? I am a lot older than 12 so need my sleep.

I heard they use the first frame. The offside law references the moment when the ball is played. They need a standard and then need to stick to it.

How can they expect fans to accept the decisions, when they don't explain the process, and they don't even try and justify the decisions afterwards either?

I watched Andy Gray give a passionate defence of why the goal should have stood. He talked about the filming being at 25 frames per second and how you would reach a different conclusion depending on which frame you looked at. He also highlighted the difficulty of identifying at what point the ball is deemed to be passed ie no longer touching the passer’s boot.

When margins are down to fractions of a second and millimetres IMO the only sensible stance is to rethink the offside rule.

Sorry, your view as a spectator is different from what the ref sees on the ground. He can't see that no City player can follow up until he backs off and looks. You start from the propostion that he is bent or biassed and view events thru that prism. Look at fan sites, every fan of every club thinks they are hard done to. It is a clear foul but refs are under instruction to wait until it is clear there is no advantage. You seem to overlook that he gave the pen. Had a city player been in a position to follow up and despatch the loose ball into the net but the ref had blown immediately you would be complaining about that.. More balance required. Perhaps you would like to post evidence of this refs bias, rather than a 12 year old's view.
EDIT PS. The12 year olds view is he didn't give what I wanted, therefore he is bent.. Just Rawk like crap.
Don't usually say this but the Spurs fan talks sense.

Has this offside rule revisitation been discussed?

Some of the suggestions had me thinking but perhaps I am rushing into this without finding the answers myself first.

If the lines on the pitch are the size/thickness they are, not just for the spectators but for the players to see clearly and give them a little margin for error to keep the ball within the boundaries. Or in other words, make decisions based on what they can actually see/perceive. Why are we now expecting the players to make judgements down to the nearest mm to keep every part of the body you can possibly score from onside, in a game that moves so fast?

An attacker will look across the back line and make a judgement on(draw his own imaginary line) what he sees and try and keep in line with the last man based on that. I doubt humans can perceive such fine margins from the distances we are dealing with, let alone while running. So my suggestion would be use the same margin for an offside(imaginary) line as a goal line on the pitch has. Instead of a razor thin line that represents a cm distance on the pitch. Either that or only their feet need to be level with the last man, down to the razorwire line drawn on screen.

Otherwise being onside or offside under VAR, will often be a matter of luck rather than the defence or attack getting their timings and distances correct. It's hard to know how much praise can be given to an attacker or defender who gets the nod their way from VAR, if they didn't know themselves until the check was made.

Getting worse in here for RAWK like crap.

Too many are obsessed with Liverpool (even had some on the Premier League match thread last weekend saying “nice one, they go above Liverpool haha” when the fucking Rags got their fourth against Chelsea) spend their internet minutes having a look at that site and I think it’s rubbing off on them.

We do have a lot of posters on this site who are paranoid as fuck n’all.

If the whole of the ball isn’t over the goal line, it isn’t a goal.

If an eyelash is over the offside line, it’s offside.

Hmm

Its not "this refs bias" though is it ? How many penalties were we denied last season, and the season before, and I'm not talking about the iffy ones either, we've had a number of nailed on penalties, just like Saturdays, not given, while other teams get them at the drop of a salad so to speak.

I said at the time on Saturday, he was just doing what he would have done last year until either someone whispered "VAR" in his ear, or he remembered VAR was in operation and he would look like a useless (or bias) twat.
