Var debate 2019/20

It is a bit odd that this is something VAR doesn’t look at. It’s something pretty clear cut that they could eradicate fairly easily.
But VAR is supposed to look at it. I posted the PL guidelines on pens and VAR a few posts back on this thread last night RIC.

The rules are clear as mud. On the penalty there were 3 offences, the keeper off his line and both defenders and attackers in the area before the ball was struck. Virtually every penalty has some sort of encroachment, it would be like the farce in the women's world cup if every one was penalised.

clearly the officials and VAR are cheats ?? this clip is even before the ball was struck and players are in the box and the keeper is a good yard of his line

I suppose the question is, which bit should the officials prioritise? Technically, as the penalty was missed, it could be argued that they should have awarded an indirect free kick to Sheffield, due to the Mahrez encroachment. If Jesus had scored, they could have ordered a retake for the same reason.

the rule is crazy and technically the linesman watching the keeper coming off his line well before the taker hits the ball is enough for a retake, but VAR on encroachment is both city and sheff utd players are in the box so its a retake pen ? but if the linesman can not see the keeper a mile off his line then he is not doing his job proper and should be up facing the broad and demoted

There is no other explanation for that, it’s disgusting , how can the officials get away with that ?

its a shocker matey and is a big problem for EPL officials if they are reviewing it ?? pep and city should send the clip to the head of the premier league and ask what the hell is going on, and if VAR and the match officials are missing that why have VAR in the first place because its a clear and obvious piss take on manchester city ? forget we won the game and should move on NO its been going on all season and enough is enough and time to answer questions

Happened all season , blatant cheating & City do/ say nothing , really winds me up , don’t they realise this will carry on season after season now with var

The spurs game tonite var did a full check on a tackle less than the one on eric, ours wasn't even checked

Another day another var not used to help us

Selective VAR for certain teams again,we need to have a catalogue of incidents then show comparable incidents that were given or overruled compared to ours and ask for an explanation come end of season, horse has bolted this season but it would be more for the following season calling them out on this ..

As I understand it:
If a penalty is scored with a legitimate strike, it is highly unlikely to be retaken. It would need some serious encroachment from outside to do so.
If missed, it should normally be retaken if:
- the keeper is off his line
- a defending player has encroached and gains an advantage (e.g. being first to the ball).
If missed and it ricochets to a player on the attacking side, then it would be a freekick to the defending side.

It does make you wonder if we'll be allowed to win it again

This should be a real concern for all of the Premier League clubs who have ambitions of winning the league. Them winning it will inevitably be a huge story that will generate loads of interest all around the World. Once the FA see all these clicks and interactions and the advertising revenue that that generates they wont want anyone else to win it for years.

Fabinho clearly tripped their player in the box,no pen given,it's NOT all about what they get given,it's also about the decisions they don't get AGAINST them

I agree Karen. But this apply’s without VAR aswell. That’s my point.
