Just listened to that all I can say is thatbfuck you’d never go into battle with them, absolutely shocking communication and they obv can’t handle the pressure, you get wiped out with them twats in charge, only saving grace is it happened to the dippers ha ha

It’s taking them an awfully long time to get these tweaks right don’t you think?

I mean, VAR should be foolproof, clear evidence right in front of everyone’s eyes.

I will give you this, your cheerleading is funny.

I don’t think they’ll ever ‘get it right’ … so much will always come down to interpretation , but I’d rather the ref has a second opinion/look than giving a blind judgement.

So many decisions are very fine margins that even with the benefit of replay there’s not clear evidence.

What I want explaining now is how the mystery "Oli" gets involved. BBC say he is Oli Kohout - the VAR Hub operations manager, who was in a different room to the VAR team. I thought we'd been assured that there was no outside involvement in the VAR process? Another lie exposed.
But when they talk to "Oli", is it not actually 4th official Olly (Michael Oliver) who replies?

Yeh, can forever improve the system, that’s the good thing about VAR.
Never really had that prior VAR, it just had to be accepted when a goal was given miles offside or when a ref pointed to the spot for a clear dive etc.
Mate it’s got to be binned (it won’t) until we get people so can run it properly. VAR is causing more trouble than it’s worth. I’d begrudgingly accept it if it was working but it’s not. It worked fine in the World Cup but our bunch of incompetent idiots think they can do it better. It just looks like a bunch of mates playing with the game and costing teams millions and millions of pounds with terrible work practice. They are getting more and more major incidents wrong now and it’s getting worse. Like I say it’s the people running it not the actual technology. What a bunch of clowns. Can’t see a way out of this though. Maybe because it’s affected a media darling team this time might cause more of a stir. The fifa AI offside system would have sorted that out in seconds. And we decided not to use it. Staggering

No need for that many people all talking over each other. You can also tell by the panic in their voices before a decision is even made that they can't handle the pressure

Offsides - far more are correctly given nowadays than prior VAR , in fact it highlights just how wrong linesman get it wrong so often (still get the odd howler)

Red card incidences - still a matter of judgement most of time, but now a ref can hear from officials seeing the challenge from all angles and also have a look on the screen himself (still get the odd howler)

Clear diving for penalty - can’t recall a no contact clear dive this season being awarded a penalty- felt a weekly basis prior VAR with Salah, Kane, Ronaldo and co

Ball over line decisions - much more clarity with video tech

Excitement- now this one I concede is very much debatable, but I find watching games nowadays quite more exciting with VAR introduced- can also celebrate twice!

Sure there’s many more and there’s no excuses for VAR when it gets it completely wrong.
Goal line tech is NOT VAR it’s an automated system

Offsides Have become worse since VAR
1) The delay caused by it have resulted in the joy of celebrating a goal it is now, has VAR found a toenail offside?
2) The spirit of the law, its purpose, was to stop “goal hanging” it was never intended to find a player offside by mm
Shoud revert back to Lino giving it unless it is clear to human eye that there’s an error which rarely happened
Red cards
3)The examination should only be in real time, no slow motion or stills It is not a clear and obvious error if it can only be seen that way
Diving
4) Players still dive and some of the incidents which once again are examined in minute detail are ridiculous
Handball
5) Handball the law is changed every week to suit VAR it was never great but still very much better before VAR

VAR has become a crutch for refs they have become progressively worse since it and it needs to go as soon as possible

but I find watching games nowadays quite more exciting with VAR introduced- can also celebrate twice!
As the hammers fans would say “you having a giraffe”

Only listened to a couple of these and it is absolute chaos. You have the confusion of so many people talking over each other, instead of what we see/hear in rugby where it’s very strict on who talks, and you’ve also got the issue of delay in the feeds to each other, meaning that they can be over-talking each other and miss parts of the audio.
The contrast with what we see from Rugby is amazing.
First, Rugby is transparent - we can hear the referee all the time.
Second, when they stop to review, the on field referee is still in charge and is clear about what is being reviewed, and they listen to all their colleagues
Third, before confirming a decision they check with one another that they agree. In the World Cup we have seen a couple of instances where some one has a different view and they go back to check that again.
It takes time, This incident happened because they were rushing - had they taken the time to check with one another they would awarded the goal and everyone would have said it was correct use of VAR.

Also, noticeable that the one who knows they have got it wrong is the technician who is there to give them the videos and draw the lines - not the trained referees. VAR calls for a different skill set than an onfield referee and should be people who specialise in that area of officiating.

VAR need to be using clear concise language when communicating, almost akin to air traffic control rooms. Not having a ‘conversation’ something like
We say Offside
We say Onside
We say Handball
We say Red card
Communication between pilots and ATC is in a certain way to ensure no ambiguity
So for example
ATC Cleared to take off
PILOT Roger cleared to take off

ATC would never say not cleared to take off as this could be misinterpreted instead they would say hold position

They need to decide on a clear set of phases

They would first confirm the on-field decision

Then say the VAR decision
eg
Onfield decision goal VAR decision offside
Ref responds Confirm Offside
VAR responds Confirm No goal

Onfield decision offside VAR decision goal
Ref responds Goal
VAR responds Onside

I dont understand the “commentary” that is going on during play why is that necessary Surely they only need to speak when the ref asks for clarification or VAR spots an error?

All you have to do is listen to the Rugby VAR. It's two grown authoritative adults having a discussion on a decision and arriving in most cases at the right outcome. Its very calm and controlled and you generally have confidence in what they are saying. Compare that to the chaos that is on that recording and imagine that being broadcast live, it would be a total car crash. For me Webb needs to go, this has his influence all over it.
