In a world of opinions that change from one minute to the next based on the latest tweet, there is something comforting about your consistency. I will miss it when you finally turn to the dark side :)

It's going to be tough to change my view.

Refs should have some tech help to ensure we get better decisions and they don't miss any howlers.

I never expected it to be plain sailing and can put up with the uproar when it makes mistakes, that can only help to implement ways to improve it going forward.

I think referees need all the help they can get as footballers become more sophisticated in their ways of bending the laws. However, change has to come from the top with the law makers setting up a system which is independent from on field referees and which recognises the measurement errors in the technology and tries to act much more within the spirit of the game. I’m less optimistic than you seem to be that the present set up can adapt to do that …. But hope springs eternal.

Just watching MOTD; the game at Luton had 2 ludicrous penalty awards (one each), which were confirmed by VAR. Even Rob Edwards said that he thought neither of them were penalties, and then admitted that he has no idea what handball is any more.

Followed by one not given for Forest which should be.

The consistency gets worse every week.

The Video Assistant Referee is an extra set of eyes, with the advantage of high quality video feeds and slow-motion replay and is there to monitor incidents the on-field referee may have missed, such as 'violent conduct'.

In our game, the on-field officials missed an Everton player deliberately kick Ederson in the head, and yet VAR ignored it. A simple case of violent conduct, and they IGNORED it, like it never happened. The PL have spent the majority of the evening playing whack-a-mole with anyone who dare post a video of the incident, and the major TV sports outlets have IGNORED it.

Weird, huh?

I’ve just seen on Twitter- he should have got punished for that and still there should be retrospective action.
