Yellow cards for diving is not part of VAR’s remit (unless the ref has given the penalty)

If technology is brought in to make decisions it is pretty clear that it should be technology that makes that decision correct but not to have a fair degree of margin for error , because what’s the point otherwise. Every decision being scrutinised to the limit by sky and other broadcasters doesn’t help its cause. If VAR cannot be improved or used properly by crap officials then binning it off is the answer

I don't even buy the "correct" argument (I presume we are talking about offsides?).

Firstly, the thing that made football special was that the rules were simple and could be judged by people in the ground or watching on TV. Maybe I am misremembering, but I can't really recall many offsides that were so ridiculously wrong that they were obvious to everybody. Sure everyone complained when a tight offside is given against them. They still do. That's normal. But how many were obviously wrong?

Secondly, these offside rules and technologies trying to define every situation precisely to the mm as on or off are ruining the art of playing or breaking the offside trap. If you can be offside when you are looking perfectly across the line, when you time your run perfectly with the ball being kicked but you are called offside because your knee in a natural running movement is cms in front of your body then the whole thing is ridiculous. You can do everything right that it is humanly possible to do yet some jobsworth tells you you're offside. It's as much a nonsense as allowing the Rashford/ Fernandes goal because .... rules. The overriding rule on offside should be gaining an advantage. That is what the bloody rule was for for a hundred years.

No, he was trying to point out that the 95% correct fallacy is just that, a fallacy. If they just defined VAR involvement as studs above the knee, they could get 100% accuracy. It wouldn't mean anything, though, and it certainly wouldn't mean the game is better for it.

But whatever. Would you say VAR cut out diving in the game yesterday? Or would you say the referee correctly didn't reward diving?

He did an outrageous dive that was waved away by oilvar , your position has always been it stops salad from diving

so he didn't get awarded a penalty?
before VAR , a ''corrupt'' ref could/would have pointed to the spot .

My position has always been it's far more difficult to award a player clearly diving with no contact a penalty nowadays with VAR , before VAR any ref could just point to the spot.

A corupt ref could easily have given it if he felt like it , many refs would have depending on their bias , admit defeat this time

Salah didn't get awarded a penalty for diving. why not ?

Liverpool fans are in outrage and crying corruption because they didn't get awarded a penalty for the Doku challenge right at the end.

The doku thing was not a pen that is why , have you seen that bit of the game then ? Hmm, selective viewing me thinks
