Amazing how quick they are to apologise to Red Tops but i don’t think we even got an apology for the Rags offside goal last season and no explanation as to why Wolves avoided a 2nd yellow today which had a similar affect on the result.
Or no apology for Forests complaints v Rags or the 2 wrong penalty calls, both in Dippers favour v Bournemouth or the Sheffield Utd Rugby tactics on Haaland which strangely were not penalties.
Or the reverse fixture end of last season when Jota avoided a red and Sours denied a blatant penalty at Anfield.

But Dippers, yep apology soon after
In the good old days apologies were never given the ref officiated the game to the best of his ability mistakes were made, just like every other participant, but the final whistle was the end of it Webb who loves the limelight finds it necessary to make apologies every week.

You know things are bad when you watch a game that's not the team you support and the refs is having a shocker again.
Nothing will change with var while it's managed by others refs (work mates )
Every weekend mistake after mistake.

Hooper: Was it offside Dazza?

England: Sorry Hoops...I'm just trying to hear what Neville says about it...playing back the Sky Q box now...I'm confused if I'm honest. He says it's a Liverpool goal but he's a scum United fan....Maybe I heard it wrong? No goal Simmo!

Just how the actual fuck does a panel of about 4 blokes whose job it is to check for offsides when a goal goes in, not check for an offside when a goal goes in? They’ve got one fucking job!!

VAR isn't going anywhere but it's implementation has been flawed from the outset. Other sports have managed to implement an approach to technology that is assistive to the match official and pretty much completely transparent. In comparison football's attempt seems to employ a different 'philosophy' to other sports and the relationship between the onfield ref and the var officials is a mess.

In an ideal world all assistive technology would be automated and under the control of on field officials. We're not there in terms of technology yet so the obvious thing to do, which has been said on here many times, is to.open up the mics and the replays and make the process much more transparent. That in turn would prompt the debate about the relationship between onfield and video refereeing; which is probably why they'll resist doing it.

Have they given a reason for the fuck up? I assume the software crashed when trying to measure it?

If it was human error then it's time for the 'Semi-Automated Offside Technology' (SAOT) to be implemented.

Apparently, England thought the goal had been awarded, so when he said "check complete", he thought he was supporting the on-field decision.

Which raises, inter alia, the following:

It's an indication of how poor the communication is between referee and VAR. Drop the chummy nicknames, get professional and have clear communication for Christ's sake. It's the absolute minimum.

There are how many on VAR?Three? Four? Yet none of them knew what was actually happening in the game?

This is a consequence of putting poor referees in charge of VAR. You get poor VAR. Surprise.

Finally, SAOT won't get rid of human error, there are still a large number of human judgments required, although it would clear this one up because it would say offside or not offside, not check fucking complete. But that is communication, not a technical issue.

Were getting fucked next week aren't we?

Whatever happened at Stockley park fucked the dippers from going top.

Attwell and Tierney on VAR it is then.
Too many clubs are getting "fucked" by VAR.

I thought the whole reason of VAR was to prevent that.

PL referees and VAR officials are totally incompetent, that's the issue.

Ideally this would be the catalyst for fucking VAR off. Sadly it won’t happen, but the game is undeniably worse as a result of VAR.

I agree, but the problem is that the genie is out of the bottle now for offsides. People have become accustomed to decisions of a toenail offside, or a knee in a running movement, which are impossible for a linesman to judge. Pre-VAR people, especially, those in the ground, were more forgiving of close offside decisions because it is a near impossible job sometimes and they couldn't do any better themselves. Not sure that, if VAR is scrapped, the linesmen wouldn't get crucified every time Sky shows a toenail offside, especially for the "favoured" clubs. And you can be sure the debate would be moved to how much better it was WITH VAR.

Basically, we are stuck with this shit-show.

VAR works quire well though not perfectly in other countries, and here has worsened under Webbs changes and edicts.

Either suspend it untill competent newly trained VAR officials are apppointed or simplify what it is there to do.

  • Remove the marginally offside checks, offside in itself wasn't created for a toenail to be a factor it was clear goal hanging
  • Remove making judgement calls on incidents that the naked eye cannot see no matter the angle, if it is going to end up just as a guess VAR shouldn't interfere and leave ot to the onfield refs judgement live in play.
  • Revert to hand to ball for hand ball and nothing else, unatural positons and bounces that strike the hand should be an in play call and not VAR reviewed
  • Only when a clear error is made should it be used not as a get out of jail card for a ref too scared to make a decision.
  • revert back to flagging offside straight away, this waiting till taking a shot is stupid and confusing
  • Decide how many passes are a new phase of play, presently VAR calls back decision from passages of play that are random
And lastly employ refs that are not swayed by a crowd call for a decision like pauson yesterday and seen many a time in games a roar and the whistle goes is being a coward

Sorry mate but just a preponderance of common sense in that post

It's a profession that attracts the very people who will be easily swayed by a crowd.

If they weren't refs, they would be auditors or something similarly spineless.

Wow, if that's the case it's so amateurish it beggars belief.

It's not like they didn't have other sports to base their protocols on. The fact it's by far our biggest sport and has been very successful in bringing huge amounts of money into the game (at least at the top level) breeds an arrogance at odds with the level of competence displayed by the majority of people involved in it's administration.
