VAR Discussion Thread | 2024/25

What's the actual point of VAR?

Just to clarify, this is not permitted in Rugby.

Almost looks like attempt murder from that angle.

But the angle Match of the Day have shown, it’s looks nowhere near as bad. He’s still very lucky and no way it’s getting reversed if the referee had seen it as a red. But probably just enough doubt for the VAR not to get involved.

And what Paddy Power omit is that the player was booked.
Var could have taken the view that it was endangering an opponent, got the ref to the screen, got him to change his mind and send him off.
Then there is 15 pages of how shite Var is.
The referee saw the foul and made a decision. Var rightly didn't get involved.

It's here to stay. Generations will wonder how we got by without it. Just like play acting is now just part of the game and excused with the line 'there was contact'. The ref delayed play in the Arsenal game the other day because a player thought he had something in his eye. Yep, it's fucked and if you don't go along with it you're a dinosaur who wants to see fences put back up, a return to footie violence outside the ground and two footed tackles.
