VAR Discussion Thread | 2024/25

also just seen the Fraser incident sneakily pulling him back denying vardy a tap in, no chance any ref would have spotted that, clear red.

Thats 3 red cards VAR correctly called this gameweek, all 3 would have been yellows or missed completely - after so many said it has killed the game, i can understand the reluctance to give it praise.
.... and the Southampton lad having his shirt pulled in the Leicester box?

Consistency is what is wanted more than anything else, but two identical incidents in the same game minutes apart... not a good look.

consistency is never going to be 100% ever - the difference with that scenario is the Ref was looking straight at the incident and deemed it not a penalty - we rightly want VAR to interfere when the Ref doesn't see an incident.

I would still have preferred VAR to intervene and turn over the Refs (non) decision, however i can understand they are reluctant to do that because they're trying to leave most decisions for the ref that he sees, not to spoil the game, slow it down and keep the moaners at bay, impossible task but glad overall it's vastly better and so many key decisions are getting corrected.

Missed exactly the same thing in the same game.

Please make this make sense?

If var got some decisions right or wrong.
It's still shit.
It's ruined football for the fans in the ground.
Look at the Ipswich pen today.
Ref gave it no complaint it looked a pen.
5 minutes looking at it by var overturned.
Even now who knows what's right or wrong.
It's bollocks

So Saliba just receiving a yellow is fine with you ? That’s better for the game ? A player that’s denied a certain through on goal opportunity just gets off with a yellow.

Kudos reacts by shoving two spurs players in the face but it’s fine for him just to get a yellow?

Vardy was about to knock a goal in but Fraser is pulling him from behind which the ref can’t see and denies him the goal. He wouldn’t even have got a penalty.

3 blatant reds all possibly never given before VAR. Yet you think it’s all bollox .

I'll be honest.
I've not seen the saliba thing your on about
I do know when I'm in the ground var has killed the experience.
Like I said if the decisions turn out to be right.
It's still takes away the feeling when your team scores a goal you can't celebrate cos it .might be knocked off.

Maybe I'm in the minority and an old ****.
But for me it's one of the reasons I'm falling out of love with the game.
I'm not trying to argue with anyone.
It's just how I feel

Yeh fair enough, I’ve had games when waiting for a VAR review is very frustrating or when we’ve scored and I’m convinced it’ll be chalked off .. over time I’ve gotten used to it though and it seems especially last couple years to have dramatically improved- and I believe they’re doing all they can to not intervere this season unless they have to.

I weigh up the pros and cons and just feel more comfortable knowing big decisions will mostly be given the correct call whereas before it was all pinned on the onfield Ref who at times was totally blind to the incident or just got it completely wrong - it’s easy to forget pre VAR how many incorrect major calls were given , players well offside scoring, players diving in the box all the time with no contact, knee high challenges not given as reds etc , I remember so many matches walking out furious at the ref and all they talked about on MOTD was how bad the officials was, something had to give.

It’s easy to forget, it’s easy to just ignore the 3 reds today that wouldn’t have given before and it’s easy just to moan all the time. I think it’s telling that no praise is ever given now for correct overturns but as soon as there is an incident most fans think VAR should have given then it’s uproar and moaning - I guess that’s just ingrained in us as fans.

What the fuck

If he's mic up to the VAR team and referee then we are all fucked

Conspiracy for Arsenal not to win the league in favour of Man City ?
