VAR Discussion Thread | 2024/25

Mark really, really likes VAR doesn’t he!! Haha!
Imagine caring so much you have to post every single time someone says they’re not a fan!

It's almost as if he feels it's his personal responsibility to defend the system .

Why don't PiGMOL want to let the viewer hear the actual conversation between officials is the bit he would be better answering .

Lots of supporters suspect that they know the real reason even if that sounds like paranoia.

Or you are just hard wired to think the ''cartel'' are anti man city and pro Man Utd and Liverpool and you will never ever change your stance.

I personally felt Man Utd got many favorable decisions prior VAR on a far more regular basis , I also felt so many players dived with zero contact and were awarded penalties , notably Salah. I don't want to go back to those days. I am acceptance of the odd controversy when the vast majority of decisions are now reviewed and analyzed fairly and leads to the correct outcome.
Go read the thread about the case we just won , proven there is a red shirt cartel who gave evidence for the prem and the rules they pushed for to stop us are illegal , they blocked two sponsers of ours using the illegal rules

The same clubs plus a few others wrote to CAS asking for them to uphold the ban

You just dont get it or are not interested . Your club sided with the now proven cartel , so politely get lost

Stop fucking wumming

They've released a lot of the audio and no one changes their stance anyway.

If a player handballs and a penalty is given, why do you need the audio really ? 'hi ref, the ball hits him in the hand, its a penalty, go and check the monitor to be sure ' the ref: 'ok cheers' that's pretty much it.

They could allow in real time, i wouldn't be against it, just know it wouldn't satisfy those who are anti the decision given.

ahh the old wumming card every time someone debates anything with you.

Sorry but I can't agree. contain/hide

Audio should be heard at the time of the event, not at a later stage. If there was something Webb wanted to contain/ hide, then changing the narrative would not be beyond the realms of possibility.

Being so determined not to allow the conversations to be raises concerns about the integrity of the process imo.

Being reassured by Howard Webb, that the officials are all acting with complete honesty and integrity doesn't convince me. But he would say that as he is no doubt well rewarded for his role.

Cynical opinion - definitely.

There is too much evidence of corruption / coercion by interested parties within the PL for me to dismiss the idea of corruption within the PL/PiGMOL alliance.

But wasn't it easier for the ''cartel'' to prevent you and stop you prior VAR when officials can just disallow goals and give penalty decisions against you with no recourse ?

As backed up by many, pre VAR Man Utd were getting farcical penalty decisions and other decisions their way on a weekly basis - do you not think you were more screwed over prior VAR?
You keep banging the same old shite about United; as if that might make your argument more compelling. As I say - put it to the vote. Methinks you know the outcome.

FIFA won’t allow live audio of VAR to be broadcast.

Webb has gone on record as saying they have actually been lobbying for them to change that rule.

It’ll come eventually, I’m sure.

haven’t you got a West Ham forum to seek VAR solace in? You’re getting mullered on here.

Yawn.

Its just a debate about the pro's and cons of VAR, I have throughout the VAR threads often been critical of some of the decisions, sympathies with alot of those who don't like it and given personal ideas how it should be improved - For the sake of balance i think it's healthy to point out when VAR has and is a force for good at times, and highlight some key decisions its got right - unless you admit that this thread should just be one echo chamber of hate and rage against VAR and that any debate in favour of it means its 'being a wum'

Today’s Guardian once again nails the shit show that is VAR:

Once again we’re talking about VAR.

Justin Kavanagh
thinks we;’re heading down a path the leads to players getting electrocuted on the pitch:

The offside rule is getting ridiculous and this constant reversion to VAR to measure whiskers is taking both the mickey and the joy out of football. Soon, some training-ground guru is going to put tracker GPS on strikers or administer shocks to the body beyond the offside line, similar to the invisible fence technology that keeps dogs in their place. Stay… stay Cole… now go, go fetch boy!

What's your view on the decision?

Another one where the commentary team were made to look stupid when PiGMOL tweeted the reason the penalty was given.

Not a pen for me.

But they gave the ref to have a second look and review it and that’s all that you can ask for.

He gave the pen. Final decision .

Does it put to bed it was designed to help Man Utd solely or has the died to death now?

West Ham fan nails it:
“Amazing innit! VAR was introduced because the standard of refereeing was obviously shite and not up to standard, so they introduced this all new shiny VAR milkarkey, with was guaranteed to to reduce this level of said shite to zero, and then (wait for it)...... produced the same level, or even a worse level of shite!”
