My point is whether they would have given it or not via var, there's no hiding behind human error with var. there's a higher level of scrutiny towards their decisions when they have the opportunity to have a second look.
Look at that united decision, with no var, they can just say human error and that's it, nothing else can be done, everybody moves on. with var, you can say here's your chance to rectify the error and there's no justifiable reason not to correct it. If they somehow don't, huge questions are then asked.
