VAR Discussion Thread | 2024/25

Wasn’t this before VAR because VAR was introduced to stop any mistakes
For me the Newcastle player’s tackle was worse with more force but apparently it was incidental contact on Phil, maybe because it didn’t break his ankle after all the criteria is much higher for a City player to be fouled
There is no excuse to be inconsistent VAR has the benefit of slow motion and freeze frame numerous times yet it fails time and time again it’s not fit for purpose or maybe it’s deliberate and it depends upon the shirt colour?

VAR for corners is long overdue, can’t believe the amount of wrongly given goal kicks given instead of corners. Its a huge error from the officials on a regular basis and rather infuriating (when it’s for your team)

Can't agree mate.
The way the upcoming WC is shaping up the games will be played across about 3 hours - refreshments breaks, weather breaks now additional VAR break

Oooh, getting the corner/goal kick conundrum sorted but what about the WWF that goes on as the corner is taken. Another blight on the game that they don't want to solve.
They don't, because it's one of those situations they can apply the rules 'subjectively' as and when it suits them.

SAOT camera's in the PL run at 100fps.

Fastest PL players can run up to 9.7m/s.

This equates to around 9.7cm per frame between on and offside for the fastest players IF the defender is static, but could be a greater distance if the defender is initially behind the ball and closing on the attacker.

Even if you half that speed for the slowest players it's 4.35cm per frame with the sane caveat regarding closing targets.

Basically, they are still guessing.
No no no! Offsides are objective black and white decisions :-)

illustrated by graphics that show people jumping at impossible times, generated in the environment of uncertainty you describe, and then subject to 5cm
Tolerance. It’s a fucking scandal

Another shit show fir football fans who actually vrave the wi d rain and cold.
Apparently somebody's knee was possibly playing someone else on but wait, that's only the first of the checks.... did anyone time how long it took or did you all fall asleep/ shag the wife*/paint the hall stairs and landing ?

*ignore that one it was definitely longer than 2 minutes

A corner is just a method of getting the ball back in play, as are throw-ins for that matter. Neither are supposed to be game-changing events. We need to stop inventing new rules for them. And until VAR can get everything right that it is supposed to do now, it should stay away from anything else, imho. Mission creep, anyone?

Corners are huge, look how Arsenal have benefited from them this season, keeps the opposition on the back foot and under pressure. Not being awarded a corner when it clearly should have been shouldn’t be casually accepted.

Mission creep absolutely.

We just wanted them to stop more Lampard non goals or the hand of god. We dint want this. Even its supporters must feel the same. total overreach.

:) Corners have become huge because they have turned into NFL moves which can have game changing impacts with weak refereeing but they are, nevertheless, just a method of getting the ball back in play. Next we will have seven referees throwing handkerchiefs on the floor.

Frankly, I would go the other way and reduce the impact of corners by applying the law properly, maybe even penalising offences when the ball isn't in play. But I'm not some suit who has to think up new ways to fuck the game over.

Like this stupid idea of taking an outfield player off after a goalkeeper injury. I mean, just why? They want to stop tactical time-outs? Don't let more than one player approach the coach during playing time, preferably only the captain, in the same way only he can approach the referee (yeah, right).

And, for the rest, just enforce the rules as they are. All the nonsense will soon stop.
