VAR (PL introduction 2019)

I would not trust a system that is not wholly transparent. Why should the snippet of action not be shown on the big screen? What are PiGMoL, the PL, and the Farce bothered about. Having a system where anyone watching on TV can see it but not the crowd in the ground smacks to me of a system that is having corruption built into it. I've just watched the Benvento v Juve game. Two pens for Juve. The first I thought was straightforward but the ref has a shifty at his screen on the side and finally decided after some minutes that it was a pen. The second, when Higuain took advantage of minimal contact and his thirteen stone collapsed onto the floor, the ref was adamant that it was a pen and didn't refer to VAR for confirmation or otherwise. I think it was a case of top of the league not being 'done' by some also rans. They did score a fourth but the issue of the two pens I thought was just a little fishy.

Does anybody seriously think that VAR will be operated openly and fairly because I do not.

The system currently operates to favour the rags and dippers due to the number of fuckers which the two clubs have as " supporters " . COmmercial factors are the main consideration of the FA and therefore nothing which affects the "success" of these teams will be allowed to prevent their progression and the referees are an integral part of their plans.

The system is so fucking corrupt but nothing which affects the favoured clubs will be allowed to prevail.

Fuck the FA and PIGMOL because they are the real destroyers of fair competition within the system. The corruption is so fucking transparent.

Well VAR would have meant you would have got penalty awarded for you yesterday.

The current system means you did not.

How you can be happy with that I do not know.

More than likely hammer and I hope you get the right calls when you hammer them on your patch and Moyes has the last laugh on Manure.

On the chances , possession , wrong calls by officialdom etc we should have won comfortably but complacency , defensive lapses and shocking decisions went against us ensure the brokers got they wanted.

VAR will not be perfect, but it has to be better than it is without it. At the very least it will remove the referees get out clause of being unsighted or happened too fast. What needs more clarity (from my perspective at least) is how is is used. Would the foul on Kun have been reviewed? clear penalty, but the ref saw nothing wrong, so why would it be VAR'd?.

You can't possibly review every tackle in the box unless it's by a third party who allows the game to continue, which isn't the current proposal, and brings with it as many problems as it solves

I sort of get the non-playing of the video in the stadium, no one wants their mistakes played out in front of tens of thousands whilst they still have a job to do, but not doing so does nothing to improve confidence in officials impartiality

Overall I believe we would have benefited overall this season had the tech been in place

The implementation of VAR has to be taken out of PiGMOL's hands. It is a technical implementation of the use of technology. I would question their competency to implement this so that it works to establish fair decision making

This is the main issue I have with it. An incident will only be VAR'd if the ref is also unsure right? He'll then call for VAR to be used so he can take a look. But in the incident you described the ref saw nothing wrong with the tackle, even though it was a clear penalty, so that wouldnt have gone to VAR.

Unless im missing something, is there someone in another room watching the match who can then tell the ref through a mic that he needs to take a look at something?

It should be a challenge system similar to what is used in American sports or tennis, two per half or something. As bad as stopping play is, playing on after an ignored red-card offense or penalty is worse.

If there isn't there should be. Should still be a "clear and obvious error" otherwise there is no need for a referee on the pitch, but without this there is little point to VAR

Arsene Wenger said this about 10 years ago, and is still the best option imo
