When I first heard VAR was coming in I was all for it - cut out the mistakes and all that...
But now i'm not so sure... according to the FA the VAR is to be used:
"Video evidence can only be used to decide whether a goal should stand, whether a player deserves a straight red card, whether a penalty should be awarded and in cases of mistaken identity."
The 1st one is highly dubious - offside's are the first thing that spring to mind... What happens if a player punts the ball forward (over the back 4) and the forward is through on goal - just as the forward goes to shoot the lino put's his flag up and the ref blows? The striker will still shoot anyway (because they do) and the ball ends up in the back of the net... VAR may well prove it wasn't offside if used (would it even be used for this and if not then what's the point of VAR?) the goalie will claim he saw the flag / heard the whistle and didn't try to save it... a total mess
