VAR (PL introduction 2019)

i said it before the offside rule needs changing if VAR is going to work, you can not bring in technology with the rule as it stands today, even derby first goal looked offside from the freekick to me but the rule of intent or being active if the ball does not touch anybody know how can VAR judge that ???

your right, it's the part of the offside law which is most open to interpretation, however there was a southampton leg playing all derby player onside from the free kick so didn't apply to this goal.

as has been mentioned several times, there needs to be a corresponding investment into the technology required to implement VAR properly for it to become a success. As it stands, with low res/low frame rate cameras from awful angles it's almost impossible to tell some offsides, even simple ones.

We need what they had at the world cup, they invested in technology to help them specifically with offsides (even when the attackers body was ahead of the defender) and it worked very well but we seem to think we'll manage with what we've got...

So you’re happy to let players to continue to dive in the box , a bit like when the ref awarded a penalty to Brazil in the World Cup when Neymar was brushed by a feather ?
(In which VAR over turned)

Kane was fouled but it never went to VAR. Where's the consistency. It's another level of shite to cover the refs arses.
They have been given much improved renumeration for their now professionalism. They should now start showing it
and start refereeing games according to the laws. The media is turning our beloved game into a fucking soap opera.

also from when the ball leaves the foot is a big problem for me with tv and var, and with distance over 30 yards how can you judge the movement of the player if you are not 100% sure when the ball has left the foot and linemen always gamble unless, he as to be getting help in the ear piece and since the premier league have been using VAR in the back ground the lineman always flag late, so again it does not work to the right percentage that the game needs and until something is made to judge both ball and player its never going to work

It will only ever be effective once all replays are shown to the crowd on the screen and all communications between the ref and the VAR ref are broadcast.

Until then , forget it as they will still cheat.

Plus, why the fuck should I, as a match going fan, not have a clue what’s going on, whilst those sat at home get to see and hear it all being explained by the commentators, bang out of order.

Spot on mate.

You have that anyway.

How do you know if the balls crossed the line sitting in the stand ? How do you know if the player dived or not ? How do you know if the ball went out of play or not ?

Of course you’re going to get more angles and replays watching on a tv indoors

To be fair though, they have no more idea what's going on than you do in the stadium, they are only watching their own replays, but they have no idea what is being said off camera, and until everyone, fans in the stadium, fans on TV, and the TV commentary team can hear it, its bent not very transparent.

Correct.

These referee's will make their own rules with VAR until its transparent to the paying fan.

Same applies to only giving 2 minutes of added time despite 6 subs and 5 goals in the second half, at least Dean gave some, unlike the ZERO seconds given against Rotherham, despite 4 goals and 6 subs, not sure when added time became discretionary.
A very very important point ,well made.
Its looking more and more like a business, not a sport..

First of all I trust the goal line technology, secondly I want them to be showing and explaining why VAR is being used on the big screens (guess which 2 ‘big’ clubs don’t have screens in their grounds) and thirdly I’m not advocating any and every decision being explained, but when the game is suddenly stopped for up to 3 minutes I want to know why.

(Where I sit I can occasionally see monitors used by tv pundits do get to see the odd decision.)

My whole point mate, it’ll only work once it’s transparent otherwise we ALL know, except the couple of usual suspects, it’ll be used to favour the ‘big’ clubs.

Heard it all now, United never got screens as they predicted VAR was coming

Is that what I said numb-nuts?

Name 2 clubs who voted against it being implemented this seSon though, go on I dare you....

But the consensus on here is VAR will benefit the teams you’re thinking of - if not , why the hell are people against it ?!

VAR will benefit those who benefit right now by not using it UNLESS it becomes transparent, it being brought in will change nothing unless we can see and hear why decisions are being made. In its current guise it’s down to solely the official in a bunker using his discretion and no one is any the wiser why.
Examples, how was the penalty awarded at old Trafford when an offside was ignored in the build up? It was clear as day yet they gave it, this after the officials had already disallowed the goal scored, instead they brought it back and awarded a penalty.
Why wasn’t City awarded the penalty v Burton when Jesus was hacked down? Stonewaller as they say yet not given.
Derby goal the other night being disallowed due to the official at home deciding that his toe was 2mm off when the replay shows the defenders shoulder playing him level.

I’m personally for it, the officials need all the help they can get in the modern game, the players will cheat at any cost and that makes it almost impossible for the referees, but it has to be transparent, they MUST be accountable for the decisions they decide to make, otherwise its open to all sorts of cheating.
