VAR (PL introduction 2019)

Funnily enough, whilst I'm disgusted with the shenanigans surrounding the use of VAR in relation to the first penalty, I'm more concerned about the use of VAR in relation to our goal. I'm not quite sure what was being reviewed.

As I saw it, there was a challenge it midfield which the ref saw as fair and play continued for several seconds including a period when the "wronged" team were in possession of the ball. They lost it and we scored. Were they reviewing the challenge in midfield ?

If so, it begs the questions of how far back in play they are prepared to go and the types of decisions they are prepared to review. There hasn't been a corner taken where you couldn't find something to hang a penalty on or a disallowed goal were you of a mind to.

I can see why we were big advocates for it in the premier league as opposed to Liverpool whom were against it.

Looking back on tonight I think it's a bad idea from our point of view. Like others have said - we have had loads of clear cut decisions go against us in the past, but after tonight it's the decisions that they can "manipulate" to go against US (in oppositions favour) that scares me. It will be used as an extra tool to fuck us over IMO.

I agree, but nights like last night might just make it too obvious and draw a bit of a media backlash, there’s already been plenty of slagging of last night. If it continued or cost us, I think there’d too mich media now to get too bad.

UEFA says that the attacking phase should be checked which in this case was Silva winning the ball and passing it to Sergio. They shouldn't have been looking at the Laporte header at all. So were they and if so why?

The thing with VAR is that the powers don't want it & making it look as shite as possible while fucking us over is a telegraphed attempt to turn the public against it, resulting in job done for the old guard.

Just have to dig deep and ride it out.

Anyone looking forward to a whole PL season of this shite?
There will be 380 versions of last night and the final table might have a very strange look to it.

Let's all get things straight. They will use Var against us fairly. If we commit or do not commit a foul/ handball etc they will look at all footage going back to when Andy Morrison got hold of Collywankstain to see if there was a breach of rules. Seems legitimate to me.

Need clear set rules and if the referee dont stick to them they should be fined and banned for 1 game.

been saying it for months the rules need changing if VAR is going to work ?? it will not work alongside the old set of rules because the referee is losing some of his power,s and the game is about opinions and how the referee see's it in real time and VAR is using video frames so anything is possible and made to looks different just like last night with the hand ball ???

big big problems in VAR in football and unlike rugby or crickets football is about the ball and player and speed of movement of a player and speed/distance the ball is traveling from the moment its kicked to hitting its targe,t also how can you judge power in a tackle and meaning to hurt somebody with a hard but fair tackle ???

One rule should be not to watch any Var decision in super slow motion it should be in normal speed! In super slow motion everything looks like a foul or hand ball

and that's why matey ?? it will never work and how can you judge speed/distance and meaning and intent

you have to be there in the stadium watching it live to see and feel a football match sounds make a big difference and you can hear a good tackle to a bad tackle

i can see it being dismantle half way through the season and a revamp of rules and letting the referee control more of VAR with what he see's in real time and let him make his choice without any involvement from his ear or from players getting in his face, the referee should show give a yellow card to anybody but the captain that gets in his face

how about using VAR with 3 choices from each team from the bench and only the VAR referee can override a clear and definite mistake made by the ref
