Sorry mate you ruin this thread for me, you won't accept any contrary view to your own on VAR. What could be an interesting debate ends in arguments
Aren’t you not accepting that he has a contrary view to you though?

If VAR was blatantly corrupt, there’d be no debate. Everybody would be on the same page.

VAR has stopped offsides that are 3 yards offside, but the debate where there is centimetres in it rages on, either because of poor equipment or subjectivity.

VAR has made the game more factually correct. What it can’t do is make every decision correct.

Some, as a result want VAR scrapped because if this and the inability to spontaneously celebrate, others want VAR to adapt and improve on technology, implementation and communication.

Some even have stopped watching football, barring city, as a result of VAR coming in, although they all seem up to date on every VAR controversy.

Look some call it corruption or cheating or favouritism or bias but one thing is absolutely clear two teams get calls more than any other if you want to say in their favour, you can bet if that was salah and not isak that goal would have stood 100%..until we can see and hear live what’s going on during a VAR call then people will continue to feel something dodgy is going on and I am in that group..

It’s not true though. Here’s how VAR altered points last season.

That’s all well and good mate but it’s the cloak and dagger shite when something subjective happens which happens nearly every other game now ..

Fair enough. There‘s nothing that is likely to change your mind on that though. It’s how it feels to you. Last year‘s stats don’t back it up. They may do come the end of this one.

I have seen this, as well.

However, this is not evidence of no attempted manipulation of match outcomes.

It is not even really evidence of United or Liverpool receiving no favour via VAR decisions, as the methodology is overly simplistic, leading to an inaccurate emphasis on only the ‘ultimate’ incidents that would have changed the outcome of the match (which, in my world, is referred to as isolation bias, and is a common issue with data analysis and poorly constructed scientific study), rather than the cumulation of decisions over the course of each match that lead to the outcome.

They are interesting to see, but because of the simplistic methodology, aren’t actually particularly insightful.

I did want to also point out that none of us in here are going to be able to “prove” or “disprove” corruption, for obvious reasons, so I think we can scrap that line of rebuttal.

Which is fine, but this is what VAR actually changed last season.

Even the harshest VAR critic isn’t going to howl at the moon about a decision that changed a result from 5-0 to 6-0.
