VAR thread 2022/23

The PL is a business. A multi £Billion one at that and the thirst to continually increase those revenues will never stop.

Harsh reality is the money is generated literally by a handful of clubs whose fans in overseas markets are desperate to watch and see, preferably winning and challenging.

Scudamore let the cat out of the bag with his revelation they had a strategic business plan to see a different side win the league as it wasn’t great to see one side dominate. What he meant was it’s not great to see a side like ours dominate as it switches off the interest from the old big 4 around the globe.

Add in media like Sky who already interfere with fixture lists to benefit themselves, the same Sky who run huge betting markets alongside the £Billions being waged across the globe legitimately and illegitimately and a VAR system and officials body who work in absolute secrecy most weeks, except for the fact companies like Sky are allowed to listen in on what they are saying and I’m sorry, to even try and suggest there is at least no attempts at match fixing via players or officials is imo extremely naive.

The way VAR has been implemented in the PL is an absolute joke. It goes against most of the football world and how they have done it. It goes against how other sports have introduced it with great results leaving fans with fantastic explanations of decisions and literally zero arguments afterwards and they show literally zero sign of changing their ways.

Ask yourself this. Why?

Bang on. I believe that is what Martin Samuel was on about yesterday re the fixtures, especially re Bournemouth. No one in the PL wants them around. No one in India tunes in when they are being shown so they got shit on with City Arsenal and the dips. If they get relegated, so what hopefully a team with more pulling power overseas gets promoted.

Outside of the Rags, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and i will put ourselves and Spurs in, the rest literally make up the numbers.

We have had ex refs from the pre VAR era admit that decisions at Old Trafford etc when the way of the team in Red because if it didn’t you never got a game there again, such was the power and influence these clubs had. VAR will not have changed that fact or opinion amongst officials.

Totally agree. Follow the money.
Sadly the rags and dips are the money.
They admit they were frightened to give a decision against the rags as a ref. Why would they change because they are in charge of the Var screen.

And therein lies the problem: we -as fans- can do nothing about it. We've known it's been going on since the days of the despotic pisscan and yet nothing has been done, because as we've all come to reluctantly admit to ourselves, the rags and the dippers bring the money in. Ergo, they are 'well looked after.'
Var will continue to assist the two verminous red-shirted teams whilst simultaneously shafting the likes of Bournemouth, Brentford etc, and will continue to do so until we fans stand up to them. Vote with our feet.

If var was conducted in the open and transparent way that it should be and fans were permitted to hear all conversations regarding on-field decisions, at the very least we'd know what, why and how certain decisions are made. But because it is all cloak and dagger we the fans are given no insight into anything. Which begs the question, why the fuck are we parting with our money to watch a game where the outcome is already known to those in the know? Why pay good money to watch while red-shirted players can and will kick fuck out of our favourite players without a single card being shown? Why pay money to see your team score a legitimate goal only to have var say: "We're disallowing it. But we're not going to tell you why because it's fuck all to do with you. You're just the mug in the stands who pays our wages. We do not have to justify any decisions to the likes of you, so fuck off before I give your opponents a penalty."

It needs a co-ordinated strike from supporters, say a couple or more no-shows at certain matches across the country: they'd fucking soon sit up and take notice of us all then.

Not sure I follow the reasoning that a tough set of fixtures at the start of the season Is necessarily a disadvantage.

You could even argue that playing the best teams early is the best time to play them.

People will be looking at sides with an easy last six games and saying it’s fixed for them. Well you gotta play the best sides at some point.

I am merely stating what Martin Samuel has printed. Probably the best journalist in this country. He knows fixtures are manipulated so why not get Bournemouth off to a really bad start.

I agree that Samuel is a good journalist. But I still haven’t heard any reason why playing the best teams early is a disadvantage.
