According to premierleague.com before VAR was introduced the percentage of correct key match decisions stood at 82 percent.

12 months later with VAR in use for the 2019/20 season, it rose to 94 percent.

Suspect it’s even higher now VAR has improved
Anyone who thinks refs get it right 94% of the time is in la la land.

The fact that claim to get it right 94% of the time raises more questions than answers.

There's been loads of games this weekend with hundreds of key decisions - how many are we talking about where the officials have got it clearly wrong ? 2 or 3 maybe

On Sunday the ref was 5 yards away from the handball. It happened quickly. He can whistle and award the penalty. This will of course be reviewed by Var and he could be invited to watch it on the screen as he made a mistake. This opens him up to ridicule for making a mistake.
A far easier option, no matter what he has seen, is do fuck all, give nowt and let Var make the decision. That imo, is what he did, he took the lazy, unprofessional way out.
The problem this can lead to is when it becomes a habit. Don't make big calls, let Var do it but that then brings in the Clear and Obvious rule where Var won't get involved.
The whole Var set up is wrong, it is unprofessional in the way it is operated. Different clubs have a different amount of cameras, some clubs even have blind spots. Everything about Var is unprofessional and open to abuse.

Sorry,, I just don’t see why any referee would think like that. If he’s seen the handball, he gives it. The game stops and if it turns out he’s wrong, it gets overturned and people might say what a shit decision it was to start with but thankfully the correct decision was reached in the end. This is exactly the scenario with Michael Oliver and the hit the guy in the face incident at Arsenal the other week. I don’t recall any particular ridicule for him calling it wrongly originally.

At City the other day, you’re suggesting he’s seen the handball but because he’s unprofessional and lazy, he decides to play on and leave it to VAR to give him a shout if his initial thoughts were right. In the meantime play goes on. There’s a possibility another major incident might occur in the time it takes the VAR to tell him to stop play. A red card maybe for violent conduct. Which would stand even if play was brought back. A Chelsea goal which would then be chalked off. Incidents that would be talked about for years.

The possibilities for opening himself up for ridicule are far greater if he takes this option. Especially if it’s on the back of him actually seeing an incident correctly but not giving it.

He’s getting ridiculed off you for example for doing exactly what you claim he’s done to avoid ridicule.

There’s a far simpler and more likely explanation for him not giving it. Which is, like it seems all the players and virtually the whole crowd, he simply missed it.

I’m in the 100% camp aswell

But hearing the communication transcripts is going to open a whole new can of worms with the conspiracy brigade - for those that love to watch the world burn - this will be fantastic
Who is the conspiracy brigade?

If you're going to continue to use that term than you need to define who comprises the membership.

And, for the record, releasing the transcripts after the match is not what most are advocating for -- the communications amongst the officials should be available live, as things happen.

There is absolutely no reason they cannot do this as the audio is already broadcast in the stadium.

The only reason not to do it is to prevent scrutiny of officiating, which is highly problematic. All other excuses are in bad faith.

How do the fans in the stadium hear this live?
Could easily have an audio stream accessible to listen via match link, not unlike accessibility accommodations.

As I said, the audio is already being broadcast within the stadiums, it really is a very minor technical step to make it available to both match going fans and TV viewers.

Broadcasters apparently already have access to some of the audio for VAR review and communication of decision making.
