they give thr BS not there to re-ref the game
best get out clause
subjective lol
That's not the point - it's more that a decision was made to only change a few major decisions, like goals/red cards.

If you say that so long as they are considering it to be a major decision, then they can change minor ones, like yellows/fouls, then you open up the game to more subjective decisions.

The fourth officI’ll had the reverse view from the referee, uninterrupted and about 10m away.
you might have thought that an intelligent referee who cared about getting the decision right, when hearing that VAR was reviewing for a possible red card for Casemiro, would have reacted. He should have made a show of going over to the fourth official and then reversing his decision to at least give the free kick City’s way. VAR couldn’t intervene directly but the referee is allowed to consult with the fourth official and change his mind. By not doing so he has made himself look like a fool or worse.
He's not allowed to.

He's miked up, so if the assistant saw it the other way, they could have let him know. If they both thought it was an Akanji foul, then, pretending to change his mind, because he's been tipped off by VAR, would be deliberately breaking the rules he's supposed to follow.

Has to be the ref.

The rag was doing exactly what he is used to doing, ie fouling the opposing player.

The ref can only see a foul by Casimero as he clearly stamps on Akanj's foot , and yet proceeds to award a free kick to the rags.

How in god's name, can that be a free kick to the rags ?

Corruption, or high level bias and /or incompetence ??

I think no-one doubts the referee made a mistake. That is obvious. it happens. The question is why VAR can't advise him to change his decision having looked at it.

I mean, it's ridiculous, they are looking at a potential red card for Casemiro, but they can't get the free kick right? It's incredible and, once again, reduces the whole of VAR to a joke.

I could accept the decision if it had altered the trajectory of the ball but as it didn't, why is it a deemed a penalty worthy offence?

It's the same as mm off-sides which don't give any real benefit to the attacker. Accuracy for the sake of (VAR) accuracy and to hell with the spirit of the game. It's what happens when you let referees make the rules.

I understand it looks daft - but you don't want VAR intervening on every yellow/foul as there are many times more per match. If you then say they can overturn a yellow/foul etc., but only if they *think* there might have been a red card offence then you're opening up a whole new can of worms.

Some on here would have another angle for the grand conspiracy ;)

If they are worried about that, then they should just fuck it all off. Problem solved.

Its nothing to do with the ruling, they'll simply give it if they want to. I've seen plenty of similar hand balls that have been waved away and cleared by VAR. So where was the ruling then?

Officials will do what they want.

Where in the rules is it ok to bring De Bruyne down in the box while not touching the ball? That should be a pen under the rules of the game

Where in the rules is it OK for Casemiro to nearly break someone's ankle and he wins the free kick?

Rules might be there, but officials will use them or not as they please, like we see every week in football.

We all understand that, but they were already looking at this, presumably for a red for Casemiro. They couldn't have been looking at a red for Akanji, could they? So, ignoring the current protocol, and having looked at the incident, do you have one reason why they shouldn't be allowed to change the decision to yellow for Casemiro and a free kick to City? They were all made to look stupid in one of the most-watched matches of the year on a global scale through shear pig-headedness. Well done, PGMOL.

Yep a rag player had the ball hit us arm in the pen box referee didn’t give it commentator said var is looking at it but because the referee didn’t give it they can’t overrule it not enough evidence they said! So it is when it suits them when and mainly if it’s the scum or scousers var changes it! Bent to fcuk
