I thought red at first then, after looking again, I thought it's more than a yellow card for deliberately bringing KDB down. Maybe we should have 10 minutes in a sin bin for subjective decisions?
Are fifa still trialing that orange card?

I saw it and changed my view similar to you. Not enough for VAR to get involved in tho

Which is why I suggest they drop the wording clear and obvious and just ref each incident as they see it. If the ref and VAR disagree, they go to the screen and discuss the ruling.

Then there aren’t 10,000 posts on social media debating how clear clear is and how obvious obvious is.

This is the thing we are debating at the moment, isn’t it?
It’s be much easier to do away with a VAR team and just let the ref view any footage they want to see

Maybe, but he’d not know what a challenge would look like from the other angle and so would go on players’ reactions more, I guess.

We need to support refs. They do a really rough job. That’s where the idea for video assistance came from- to make it easier. Take the tripper incident yesterday. In a non-VAR team world he could have gone to the monitor and viewed footage before making a potentially game changing decision. Infinitely preferable to yesterday

Neither was Trippier. He was executing a tactical foul.

It’s a fine line IMHO. A tactical foul to me is when a players wriggled past you and you take out his legs or body check him when he’s put the ball past you. When a player is in full flight and you’ve got to hurl yourself a couple of yards at him to stop him it’s a bit beyond a simple tactical foul.

When I first saw it I thought it was a yellow, when I saw the replay I thought it weren’t great and was a red that. The ref thought the opposite once he was asked to go look again… he’s already been told he’s wrong so was always going to change his mind… they always do.

Can’t imagine VAR did the refs confidence much good yesterday.

You can’t please everybody all of the time also needs adding into the equation.

Fans of the team having the foul committed would have a different bar to fans of the team committing the foul.
