VAR thread 2022/23

I think the camera angles at the Swamp aren’t great for judging offsides either way. There was one last season that looked way offside from one angle and onside from another.
Ive honestly no probs with that goal being given. Although its ‘them’ it helps us in the long run.
I just hope all tight calls are given to the advantage of the attacker

What???

You mean there are 2-way comm's between the TV studio and VAR operators???

*Pretends to be shocked*
If you listen to the commentary they were undecided about whether Rashford was on or off. Now I might be wrong but Neville was at first saying he was off. Suddenly he shouted out that he was on, immediately it was announced that according to new rules he was in fact onside. It was a new ruling that was allowing the player the benefit of the doubt. In my obviously biased view there was no doubt he was offside according to what we all thought. When did they introduce this new interpretation surely not in the middle of this game.

At the start of last season.

VAR has been with us for a number of years now and yet we are still in the dark over many things.
I assume var uses the images provided by the Sky/BT cameras. Does Sky/ BT have to provide the same number of cameras at each ground ? I would assume some smaller grounds cannot accommodate the same number as at the Etihad.
Are the cameras in exactly the same place at each ground so as not to provide distorted/different images.?
Do Var have access to every camera ?
Who chooses what footage to show the ref on his monitor, just the var official or can the ref ask to see a particular image?
How come after 4? Years I am asking these questions?

VAR (Banks): What's the red for?

Ref: Dangerous tackle mate.

VAR: Do you want to look again? Deano is going livid. Can't let City walk the title Jarred. Go to the monitor and make it a yellow.
I thought this season we could hear the conversations between the ref and VAR like in cricket and rugby after the game had finished.

Or am I imagining that?

If I had the time I'd put in a FOI request for the answers to those questions. I would also ask to see calibration certificates and fault logs, especially relating to the Dipper's game where VAR didn't seem to be working when they appeared to guess on the TAA handball and Salah offside decision.

Because you haven’t bothered trying to find out the answers?

The answer to everything you ask is freely available and easily found.

We still haven't got to the bottom of the VAR 'Match commander' question. The PL say there isn't one, but SOMEONE decides who sees what.

Also, the PL contradict themselves heavily on their VAR explained page (https://www.premierleague.com/VAR) with this comment:

'In the Premier League, there will be a high bar for VAR intervention on subjective decisions to maintain the pace and intensity of the matches'.

I can think of a game not too many days ago where this statement was completely ignored...
